She was close enough to see that the girl had written a word on the wall in bright, warm red blood. Not a word, actually. A name...

Everyone in the small town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing 17-year-old girl. All they've found so far is her phone and another girl they didn't even know was missing.

Mute and completely unresponsive to the world around her, it's clear this mysterious girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona.

Currently suspended from the force for misconduct, Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. She knows the race is on to find Isabelle alive, and she fears there may be others....

The trail leads Josie to another victim, a girl who escaped but whose case was labelled a hoax by authorities. To catch this monster, Josie must confront her own nightmares and follow her instinct to the darkest of places. But can she make it out alive?

Fans of Angela Marsons, Helen Fields, and Robert Dugoni will be utterly gripped and listening long into the night once they discover the first in this unputdownable new crime thriller series.

Although this book is a good read and has a number of five star ratings, I felt the coñclusion of the book was rushed

The characters are all similar to ones we have seen before with some quirky additions.

The story is interesting, without being outstanding.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed this book as I really enjoy this genre and am looking forward to book two in the series.

A good read

The characters and story are quite well constructed. Things run at a fast pace and keeps you guessing. The dialogue is the only draw back at times feeling strange, it is used to explain situations rather than well written descriptive text. Hopefully the author will develop as the series continues and move up to 5 star's, but an encouraging beginning.

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Eilidh Beaton

Girls vanishing with no connection to each other being made until an unknown girl appears traumatised and mute seemingly locked in her own world but suspended detective Josie Quinn risks her career investigating on her own and what she uncovers is secrets and corruption beyond her comprehension putting not just her life at risk but the lives of those closest to her.

This gritty thriller kept me engaged to the very end, well worth a read or a listen.

The narrator does a fantastic job portraying the fear, betrayal, pain and confusion the characters face.
Eilidh Beaton is now on my list of narrator’s to look out for when choosing an audiobook.

Enjoyed it

Thought this book was excellent. It was basically a cruel story which with skill pulls the reader into the twists and turns on a race to the crashing finish

I have to disagree with the reviewer who thought there was too much swearing .. it was little and appropriate and I have seen and heard much more on TV.

Highly recommend this book.

Well written book about warped and cruel people

I listen to a lot of crime fiction, and it feels like years since I’ve found a really promising new series to listen to. New to me anyway, and I’m excited to listen to everything else in this series. I read some reviews not keen on the narrator which nearly put me off, but I think she’s very good and perfect for the characters.

A really promising series start
