A #1 Amazon Charts bestseller and Prime Reading’s most read book of 2018.

In this multimillion-copy bestselling series from #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh, former prosecutor Morgan Dane faces the most personal - and deadly - case of her lifetime.

After the devastating loss of her husband in Iraq, Morgan Dane returns to Scarlet Falls, seeking the comfort of her hometown. Now, surrounded by family, she’s finally found peace and a promising career opportunity - until her babysitter is killed and her neighbor asks her to defend his son, Nick, who stands accused of the murder.

Tessa was the ultimate girl next door, and the community is outraged by her death. But Morgan has known Nick for years and can’t believe he’s guilty, despite the damning evidence stacked against him. She asks her friend Lance Kruger, an ex-cop turned private eye, for help. Taking on the town, the police, and a zealous DA, Morgan and Lance plunge into the investigation, determined to find the real killer. But as they uncover secrets that rock the community, they become targets for the madman hiding in plain sight.

"Search no further for a suspenseful audiobook. And narrator Cris Dukehart gives it a dynamic performance.... With a performance that ranges from depicting fear to delivering shocking reveals, Dukehart draws the listener in from the first chapter." ( AudioFile)

I’ve listened to many audio books during the pandemic especially when out walking. This sounded so very tired and never caught my attention, sadly hence the reviews.

Narrator voice is monotonous

A really enjoyable story with a great pace, well written and totally engaging from start to finish. This is second Melinda Leigh and really looking forward to reading more in the Morgan Dane series. The narrator did an excellent job bringing the characters to life 5 stars from me⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏🏽👏🏽

My kitchen has never been so clean just so I had moments to myself to listen to this wonderful book, gripping story line and amazing performance can't wait for next book in the series, roll on September
Only slight dissatisfaction was that the poor young man Nick was not exonerated inform of the town after his life had been completed destroyed - my niggle nothing against the author's ending

Amazing

Got to admit that Melinda is one of the best thriller writers I've indulged in. Always pacy with good dialogue the stories are exciting with red herrings and twists all through the book and very little if any side padding. Most enjoyable and highly recommended

They're out there preying !!!

this book looks into the justice system and shows how easy it is the frame someone and how the police can get it so wrong. Thank goodness there are people who go above and beyond to ensure the right person gets convicted. A thriller with a love story combined. A good read.
