A long-awaited Lord Peter Wimsey novel, telling the story of his first case - and his last....

Jill Paton Walsh triumphantly completes Dorothy L. Sayers last unfinished detective novel, featuring Lord Peter Wimsey and his new wife, Harriet Vane.

It is 1936, and Lord Peter Wimsey has returned from his honeymoon to set up home with his cherished new wife, the novelist Harriet Vane.

As they become part of fashionable London society, they encounter the glamorous socialite Rosamund Harwell and her wealthy impresario husband, Laurence. Unlike the Wimseys they are not in love - and all too soon, one of them is dead. A murder case that only Lord Peter Wimsey can solve.

If you enjoy Wimsey then you’ll love this!
Evoking a bygone era of money, manners and privilege the hero’s witty dialogue is matched blow for blow by the heroine! Enjoy!

Perfect Wimsey

There’s an awful lot of guff for most of this book, but those of us who admire and follow Dorothy Sayers work will no doubt continue through it to its conclusion. There is also a softness and a romanticism not usually associated with Ms Sayers , which I quite enjoyed. The story was more about upper class living between the wars than about a detective story, but I kept on listening and am pleased it had a very satisfying ending.

Long winded but intriguing

Always wary about such completions, but this was written with the full authentic voice of Dorothy L Sayers. Very satisfying. Great reading as you’d expect from Ian Carmichael.

Did not disappoint

I can only assume that this was recorded towards the end of Ian Carmichael’s life as the performance is weak. I almost abandoned the story because of the silly voices but , fortunately, the French painter features little and the other silly accents disappeared. A pity, it’s a good yarn

Dreadful Accents!

Ian Carmichael the definitive Whimsey. Wouldn’t wish to listen to anyone else. Background of impending war delicately described.

An excellent addition to the DLS canon.
