The fourth volume of memoirs from the author who inspired the BBC and Channel 5 series All Creatures Great and Small.

Finally home from London after his wartime service in the RAF, James Herriot is settling back into life as a country vet. While the world has changed after the war, the blunt Yorkshire clients and menagerie of beasts with weird and wonderful ailments remain the same. But between his young son, Jimmy, trailing him around copying his every move, stubborn farmers refusing to try his ‘new-fangled’ treatments and a goat that has eaten 293 tomatoes, Darrowby is far from quiet. And with another baby on the way, life is about to get even more chaotic . . .

Since they were first published, James Herriot’s memoirs have sold millions of copies and entranced generations of animal lovers. Charming, funny and touching, The Lord God Made Them All is a heart-warming story of determination, love and companionship from one of Britain’s best-loved authors.

'I grew up reading James Herriot's books and I'm delighted that thirty years on, they are still every bit as charming, heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny as they were then' - Kate Humble

Eleştirmen yorumları

I grew up reading James Herriot's books and I'm delighted that thirty years on, they are still every bit as charming, heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny as they were then (Kate Humble)
Herriot’s enchanting tales of life in the Dales are deservedly classics. Full of extraordinary characters, animal and human, the books never fail to delight (Amanda Owen, bestselling author of The Yorkshire Shepherdess)
The attraction of Herriot’s ever popular memoirs of a country vet . . . is their alternating highs and lows, humour and pathos, and gripping anecdotes about delivering lambs, grumpy farmers, hypochondriac pet-owners, stroppy cows and blunt Yorkshire characters. And, of course, there’s a powerful nostalgia element in these stories about our green and pleasant land in the day before the ravages of ribbon development

I bought this book to help me fall asleep at night, but quickly fell under the spell of James Herriot and started listening to large chuncks of it.

Lots of short stories from when his children were young, covering the dawn of antibiotics.

I found the Russia story fascinating. There was a time before the internet and mobile phones.

Pure James Herriot

Loved listening to Christopher Timothy’s voice reading one of my favourite stories with such passion. His voices and the incidental music allow me to really picture the scene. I listen to about 25 mins every night to lull me to sleep, it is so relaxing to listen to.

Another super book to listen to
