THE PERFECT INTORDUCTION TO THE MULTIMILLION-COPY BESTSELLING ADAM DALGLEISH SERIES FROM THE 'QUEEN OF ENGLISH CRIME' (GUARDIAN)

'A legend.' VAL MCDERMID
'P. D. James took the classic crime novel and turned up the dial.' MICK HERRON

Adam Dalgliesh has never failed to solve a case - yet.

When the body of a woman is discovered at the Steen Psychiatric Clinic with a chisel through her heart, it seems to Dalgliesh a straightforward enough case: the building was locked, and no-one has been able to enter or leave since the murder. Logically, the killer must be one of the shocked group waiting to meet him.

But Dalgliesh quickly discovers an intricate web of lies and grudges among both patients and staff which threatens to derail the investigation. And as he works to uncover the truth, the murderer is preparing to strike again . . .

An excellent whodunit with a surprise ending very cleverly achieved.

There are lots of crime books out there but this is up there with Ian Rankin at his best.

Thoroughly recommended!

Not much to say but that I found the narration made this s an enjoyable listen. Easy to pick up and put down. Didn't rock my boat but I still would recommend

Enjoyable listen

Good story and plots etc. but it didn’t work for me in the audio book format. So many characters and so much detail that I found it difficult to take in all the information and consequently found I was lost on numerous occasions. I feel it would be better to read than listen too as you really need to concentrate.

Challenging!

An early Adam Dalglish novel. Good storyline, narrated well. Even though AD is his usual good and pleasant detective his love life is a bore.
