Anthony Award-winning author William Kent Krueger crafts this riveting tale about a small Minnesota town’s ex-sheriff who is having trouble retiring his badge. Cork O’Connor loses his job after being blamed for a tragedy on the local Anishinaabe Indian reservation. But he must set aside his personal demons when a young boy goes missing on the same day a judge commits suicide—and no one but O’Connor suspects foul play.

Eleştirmen yorumları

"Krueger makes Cork a real person beneath his genre garments, mostly by showing him dealing with the needs of his two very different teenage daughters. And the author's deft eye for the details of everyday life brings the town and its peculiar problems to vivid life." ( Publishers Weekly)

I have been putting off starting this series, for two reasons. Mainly because I am not a thriller fan (I read too many in my formative years), and also because there are so many of them! I wish he would focus more on his epic stand-alone novels.
However, I was pleasantly surprised and I finished the book keen to start another, which I have, though with 3 or 4 books in between.
Cork is a great main character, just a general, honest kind of man, who would like an easy life but wants to help people and gets drawn into situations. WKK hasn't made him invincible, which is what a lot of authors will do and I liked that he didn't win every fight, that he had to use his brain and enlist the help of others.
Roll on Boundary Waters (Book 2 of 20!)

Interesting series from the inimitable WKK.

Good story but I think I’d have preferred to read it on paper than to listen on Audible. A bit difficult to keep track of all the characters when listening.

It was well written and read, set in an area which I know slightly and like.

A story which flowed well

Logic is a bit short, here and there, in the dialogue, now and again, but the storyline is good mystery, and the characterisations are vibrant.

Compelling Listening

Beautifully and descriptive writing style. Very character driven The mystery is a slow build, but has a satisfying conclusion. Easy listening.
