Andrew Sachs reads Jonathan Swift's humorous and unforgettable tale of a strange man in some very strange lands. Gulliver had always wanted to see the world. But whenever he steps on board a ship, bad luck always seems near at hand. He is shipwrecked, abandoned, marooned and mutinied against - and each time lands in a strange and curious place.

First he discovers the kingdom of the small people of Lilliput, whose height make their petty quarrels seem ridiculous. Gulliver then encounters the giants of Brobdingnag, who are amazed by how tiny he is, and treat him like a pampered pet. But his smallness leads him into many dangers, and he longs to escape and make his way home. Will he ever see England again?

Sachs is a brilliant orator and tells the story well. I didn’t realise this was only the first two strange lands he gets to visit and not the whole novel. Worth a listen though.

Great but too short.

This old tale is read by a talented actor bringing the possibility of the yarn being true

Excellent narration and story. However, the audiobook ends abruptly after a lengthy description of Gulliver's shipwreck and adventures in Lilliput, Gulliver encounters a race of tiny people about six inches tall. Their society mirrors human pettiness, as they wage absurd wars over trivial matters, satirising political disputes in England.

In Brobdingnag, the situation reverses: Gulliver is among giants. Here, he appears insignificant, and the king ridicules European politics and warfare after hearing Gulliver’s proud descriptions, exposing human cruelty and corruption. However, this is an abridged version of the account, ending abruptly when he escapes and returns to England.

His third voyages to Laputa and other islands, are not mentioned, nor is his visit to the land of the Houyhnhnms, where rational horses govern a peaceful, logical society, while the brutish human-like Yahoos embody vice and savagery.

Gulliver admires the Houyhnhnms and grows to despise mankind, including his own family. However, there's none of that included. None of the missing 'bits' are made clear in the title or it's description.

Should be called Gulliver's Adventures in Lilliput
