Summary

Sparks fly between hotshot FBI Agent Rick Sanchez and no-holds-barred, FBI-K9 Handler Kendra Dean, as they race to stop a serial killer.

While hiking in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, FBI Special Agent Kendra Dean and her K9 partner, Baxter, stumble upon a dead body stashed in the woods. The discovery changes both of their lives forever.

Special Agent Rick Sanchez hunts a serial murderer who is targeting women on a multi-state killing spree. Kendra Dean, an agent Rick met on a joint mission six months ago, has found the most recent victim. Rick and Kendra once shared a tempting chemistry but time and miles made their spark a distant memory.

Now, thrust together to solve a deadly case, Rick and Kendra rekindle their attraction only to find their personal demons are even greater obstacles than their geography. It’s hard for Kendra to see around the chip she carries on her shoulder as she works to prove herself in a man’s world. Rick harbors a debilitating guilt over a past failure that holds his heart prisoner and he’s terrified to love again.

The serial killer sets his sights on Kendra. With her life in the balance, she and Rick must deal with their issues. Will they be able to admit their feelings and embrace their growing intimacy before it’s too late?

Romance

I thought this would be a search and rescue/Murder mystery. It was 80% romance with a tiny bit mystery and the dog “partner“ is a side-note. This was not my cup of tea.

Unexpected Simplistic "romance" novel

I have been reading several series with strong female characters with K9 partners. I thought I would try this one out. The writing was simplistic and poor, Characters and plot were far too predictable. It wasn't what was expected.

Thrilling First in Series

Having finished the most recent FBI K-9 book by Sara Driscoll a friend recommended I try Jodi Burnett. Avenging Adam has everything I look for in Romantic suspense. Jodi has created a believable strong independent female character that grabs your interest from the beginning. While her male hero recognizes and admires her strength, he struggles with his alpha need to protect. Again making him very relatable. The plot twists kept me glued to the story long after the household was sleeping! And I am a sucker for K-9's , especially flopping eared bloodhounds like Baxter! I ha e already added the rest of the series to my wishlist!
Janine Granda performance of this Audible offering is not to be missed. She reads with just the right tempo to add tension where needed. Her voice interpretations of the different characters is just as I would imagine them to be. It was like sitting in the best performance of readers theater!
Overall, this was a great recommendation from a friend; one I am happy to pass along!

I can take care of myself. Ha!

People who say they can take care of themselves, can't. Why writers make their character's stupid to create drama. Let's see,a professional dog waits until the master is attacked before responding. Kendra's dog doesn't come when called, she hears a noise he power goes off, the flashlight she just put down disappears and she still isn't sure something is wrong putting her weapon away. In real life she's dead. I prefer Jet, Caitlin Strong, Faith McClellan and other women that can take care of themselves and don't make stupid mistakes.

Enjoyed it but wanted a stronger female character

I love K-9 mysteries and the strong female characters that come with them. I generally liked the story and the mystery, but I am in agreement with others who found that the story disintegrated onto romance and at those times, our heroine was portrayed as weak and fragile, despite being a kick a$$ FBI agent. Even with that, I enjoyed the book and I will be listening to more by this author. Hopefully Agent Dean gets stronger with each story!

I am now hooked!

A brand new author for me and I am now hooked on this K9 series. The author has created some great characters who are easy to relate to. I have to say I was so sad for Baxter Kendra's dog. Kendra & her dog were hiking in the mountains when they found a dead body. She was knocked out & her dog hurt. Afterwards the investigation by the FBI will lead you on a wild ride. It will definitely keep you turning pages. If you haven't started this series then you should. You won't be sorry.

Hard to put down!

I really enjoyed Jodi’s writing. It’s the first time I’ve listened to any of her books. I am listening to all of the K9 search and rescue mysteries I can . And this one did not disappoint. Agents Sanchez and Deen’s intensely fiery attraction added to the story’s flare. Looking forward to the 2nd book in this series, and hoping there are more .
