Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life, health and longevity and yet it is increasingly neglected in 21st century society, with devastating consequences: every major disease in the developed world - Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, diabetes - has very strong causal links to deficient sleep. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why its absence is so damaging to our health. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Editor reviews
James Clear’s best seller Atomic Habits sets out to prove that improving your life doesn’t have to mean making enormous changes. You can make real, important changes with small alterations in your routine—waking up five minutes early, or doing two push-ups a day. In fact, Clear states that there are only 10 simple steps you need to take in order to create remarkable change in your life.
Clear himself narrates the book and as a frequent podcaster and a guest on countless talk shows, his compelling voice makes his life lessons easy to digest. The tips and methods you’ll hear are paired with real life stories of Olympic athletes, business bigwigs and leading scientists, demonstrating how Clear’s advice has been put into action by real people — and how you can apply these methods to improve your own day-to-day.
Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
There's never been a better time to make a few tiny changes that will revolutionise your life.
A revolutionary system to get one per cent better every day.
People think when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions – doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.
He calls them atomic habits.
In this ground-breaking book, Clear reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone) and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.
These small changes will have a revolutionary effect on your career, your relationships, and your life.
Critic reviews
"A supremely practical and useful book. James Clear distils the most fundamental information about habit formation, so you can accomplish more by focusing on less." (Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck)
"James Clear has spent years honing the art and studying the science of habits. This engaging, hands-on book is the guide you need to break bad routines and make good ones.’ (Adam Grant, author of Originals)
"A special book that will change how you approach your day and live your life." (Ryan Holiday, author of The Obstacle Is the Way)

Sorry - I couldn't finish it
So, there's about four hours left of this book and I just can't do it anymore. I feel for the guy, James Clear, and his experiences, but this book is like ego-stroking, and the reader is supposed to take his lead. I just couldn't. It reads like a marketing tool to raise the authors profile. Perhaps, if the narrator was different, I might have stuck through it. Really, second chapter in and It feels like: James Clear wrote this book. James Clear narrated this book. James Clear marketed this book. James Clear. James Clear. James Clear. What about what the reader needs or wants? Or what the author promises? If you want atomic habits, instead of reading this try the '7 Habits of Highly Effective People' by SR Covey. Better yet, do an internet search for habit development - it's more useful than this title two chapters in. This title pales in comparison, and new authors to this genre don't seem to have an ethical dilemma borrowing material from other well-respected theorists and researchers without crediting them. Great starting book if you're an early stage good habit developer, but like other modern titles, rarely state clearly that they are based on pre-existing theories (most of which work and which do not need tweaking or a new spin on the original idea) or that the title is an anthology of such theories borrowed from others.

Incredible take on habits
I’ve read many books on personal development and this is hands down the best of the lot. I’ve never read a book so clearly constructed in terms of the workings of human behaviour combined with genuinely actionable takeaways. This covers easily manageable steps to address habit formation in literally any aspect of your life. I happened to be in a personal funk at the time of reading this and going through the motion stage of addressing the things I was struggling with (ironically reading lots of books but not doing anything with the knowledge) This book has given me a plan of action, a framework to build out the habits and identity I aspire to.

Amazing book but...
Honestly, if you’re reading this review-buy the book! It’s excellent and I’m on my second listen to it and have taken much away from my first time.
Though I really, *really* wish it could be edited to take out the constant reading out of the full website address or even change it to “you’ll find it on the website”. I’m really surprised this wasn’t picked up before it made it to the final stages, it’s really annoying particularly in audio.
On my second listen it’s beginning to get insufferable and I can’t help eye rolling each time even though the actual content is wonderful.

Some nice ideas - but a bit shallow
A bit of a mishmash of neat ideas and stating the bleeding obvious. He has quite a narrow definition of ‘success’ that seems to revolve around going to the gym, making money etc... still, some of it was thought provoking and useful.

I've followed James Clear's work for a long time and was reluctant to buy the audiobook thinking I already knew all of this. Probably one of the most useful books I have read
Well, listened to.
This book really resonated with me. Yes it’s about creating good habits but the author is specific about how to create habits, and also explains how we self sabotage and why. He talks about the Habit of Action, amongst others, which I suspect should apply to 90 percent of us.
The book is clear, practical and very interesting.
Thoroughly recommended.
P.S. I wrote this review as part of a new habit, because of this book.

Fascinating discussion on habit psychology
loved it, now need to implement it! One of the key insights for me was that a what we do habitually is more important than the goals we set. We are, after all, our habits!
