About this listen

What happens when the past comes back to kill you?

When DCI Anna Tate is called to the gruesome discovery of a dead woman found on Barnes Common, she is plunged into a high‐profile investigation involving a prominent MP. London is baying for blood - but is there more to Holly’s death than at first meets the eye?

Meanwhile, the hunt is on for Anna’s missing daughter Chloe, who vanished 10 years ago when her ex‐husband kidnapped her. The case has been cold for what feels like forever - but a phone call brings a brand-new lead....

Can Anna solve the murder case whilst dealing with her own personal demons? Or is someone from the past planning to get in her way?

An addictive new thriller from J. P. Carter, perfect for fans of Katerina Diamond and M.J. Arlidge.

Good story but the accents were a bit off sometimes and every chapter had a recap of the story which was unnecessary. Also, lazy writing to have the readers updated through the newspaper ‘reports’

Good story but no need for a recap every chapter!

Rarely do you get a "Wow" moment nowadays when reading, but this book actually had me shouting it out loud—much to the confusion of the strangers around me! J.P. Carter has delivered a truly gripping sequel that kept me reading straight through the night, something I haven’t done in years.

In this second outing to DCI Anna Tate’s patch, the stakes are higher than ever. The story kicks off with the murder of a feisty young woman, and the spotlight immediately falls on her cruel ex-lover. He’s a "charmer" with a golden path to Parliament, but his political ambitions are thrown into jeopardy when he becomes the prime suspect in her death.

While the murder investigation unfolds, we also follow Anna’s deeply personal quest to find her long-lost daughter. The emotional weight of this subplot peaks when an age-progressed image of Chloe is released to the public. As these two narrative threads entwine, the tension becomes unbearable.

I simply couldn’t wait to find out how it would all end. This is a brilliant, high-octane thriller that I cannot recommend enough.

A brilliant book, now I'm dashing off to get Book 3!

5/5

My heart was thumping all the way through.

This begins soon after the end of book one. Often second books aren’t as good but this was equally enjoyable. However, I’m sure Anna’s voice kept changing but maybe it’s my ears!

Enjoyable sequel

This is such an addictive series I am really got invested in the characters and how it was going to resolve. Both in their personal and work lives.

The crime itself is well thought and worked.

i went straight onto book 3 as I wanted to know how it progressed.

Addictive series
