Summary

A lady discovers that the monster of her nightmares just might be the hero of her dreams.

The lady labels him a devil.

Miss Lydia Lovell is on a quest for justice. For years, Lord Greystone’s tenants have suffered at his hands. While he abandoned his estate to rusticate abroad, poverty and illness crippled those who depend upon him. Now Greystone has come home, and Lydia is determined to make him pay.

Greystone returns for revenge.

Having spent five years abroad making his fortune, Miles Oakley, Viscount Greystone, returns to England with one goal in mind - to ruin those responsible for his mother’s humiliation. The plan is in place. But when a spirited lady accosts him at the manor's gates, hurling her ridiculous accusations, he discovers another shocking betrayal.

The course of true love never runs smoothly.

But Lydia has more to worry about than Greystone’s tenants. Her brother’s cunning wife wants control over Lydia's inheritance and is plotting ways to accomplish her goal. And damn Greystone. Lydia cannot fight her attraction to the man she’s spent years despising.

When threats of murder and blackmail throw them together, and passion burns with ferocious intensity, Miles and Lydia must overthrow their enemies if they have any hope of surrendering to love.

Refreshing tale with a Strong Heroine

I love to read about strong women who look adversity in the eye and stand up for themselves. When she was backed in a corner by her sister instead of backing down and letting the villan go ahead with there plans she threw a punch... Perfect!

Reading was way, way too dramatic.

Story had potential but just lost development and performer was extremely dramatic. I began to focus on how bad she was rather than the undeveloped story.

Insta-love with an idiot

I read the reviews and thought this must be a great book, but it's not. It's another one of those "their eyes met in the first chapter and 7 days later they are in love and having sex. One of the reviewers indicated that the characters were well developed. I don't know what you can know about any character in so little time and when there is very little variety in their activities.
The heroine is a saint. She helps everyone, uses her money to support people, she's very smart, She is the "most beautiful woman ever" and remains unmarried...I guess a saint can't find anyone good enough . She's feisty ( how this happens , as there is no back story to indicate how this developed). There is no back story for anyone. The hero has made a fortunate ( not sure how or why), heroine's brother is married and his wife is a shrew ( and having an affair) and there is already a suitor for the heroine that is trying to compromise her and gain her inheritance.
The reader gets plunked down in the middle of all of this. And of course we get a foreign servant that spouts platitudes at every turn. I enjoyed Ms Clee's books when they involved a mystery, but I don't think she has the ability to really write a developed relationship. Insta-love/lust is just not enough to build the foundation of a book.
The over-the-top narration hurts a book that is not good to begin with. I just can't believe other people read this and thought this was a good book. If that is the case, I am really missing something, but I don't think so!
Not worth a credit.....even if it were free I don't think it is worth the time.

An excellent start to a new series

What an excellent start to a new series! I just couldn’t wait to listen to the next instalment. The characters were both interesting and intriguing and all set, mainly in the countryside. Lydia was such a lovely character, she had such thoughtful ways, particularly for the poorer members of their community. Miles, too, was all you could ask for in a hero, strong, handsome, caring for those he loved. There are a number of secrets to be revealed and a few villains to add interest to the story. The narrator really brought the scenes to life by using different voices and adding appropriate emphasis to the action to build tension and excitement. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next in the series. Highly recommend.

Great start of a new series

This is a great first book in a new series by Adele Clee. I have read every one of her books and listened to quite a few and have never been disappointed. And this new book is no exception. The characters are well developed. The story is fast-paced. There are a lot of funny remarks that made me laugh out loud and I absolutely loved the banter between hero and heroine. And though she was annoying at times, I even liked the maid. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this new series. And, as with all the other books she narrated, Ms. Ivary did a great job.
