Not Actually An Astronomy Book.

This book is not an astronomy book, either for beginners or otherwise. (It does go through a general set of basics of cosmology and astrophysics which are mostly correct - but there are a few definite errors. Cosmology and astrophysics are fine, but they are not the same thing as astronomy!) I think the author has randomly picked astronomy as a subject for a book, and then proceeded to talk about something she mistakenly thinks is astronomy (but actually isn't). Furthermore, one part of the book quite abruptly becomes a fairly dogmatic (albeit pleasantly phrased) assertion that the universe is all the work of God - the author's god to be exact. An "interlude" chapter on the author's own philosophy may have been okay - but what she has done is not at all acceptable. In a beginners astronomy book you should find information on how to start observing; what are the best starting instruments; where to find the planets; the major constellations; star clusters; observing the moon; the Pleiades; the Andromeda galaxy; etc. etc. Readers will find none of these in this book. It may be well intended, but this is not a beginners astronomy book - or even an astronomy book!

Not impressed

Started off well but very basic. It's not till you get to the end that the author's real message comes out. A very bad argument for the existence of God. In short it's God what did it so not much point in studying astronomy.
