If I start a book, I like to do the author the courtesy of finishing it but I have to admit that I was tempted to give up several times. I didn’t like the implausibility of someone in distress writing letters to a niece that he barely knew and I found the whole thing long and tedious. I was almost looking for other things to do, rather than listen to this book. I definitely won’t be listening to more from this author.

I made it to the end but I’m not sure why.

I liked the story line, sometimes difficult to follow but interesting. The narration was odd. Poor accents , very rapid , dialogue was good but the narration in between was a series of really repetitive intonation patterns and was annoying.

So many people asking questions only to not be given an answer. Bit predictable.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I did like about this book. It was intriguing, and engaging, yes. I kept listening to it without the urge to take long pauses - like the characters I wanted to get to the summit of the story and find out what was going on, what it was all for. The leaf up to that point was good, and I can see it making a good film.
But the ending gave me Cornetto Trilogy no.3 vibes and felt a bit meh 😐
So yes, I enjoyed it. The journey (ha! You'll get it when you get there) was pretty good (at least when focused on the mountain) but the ending failed to deliver for me.

l loved this book, It's about a mountain but actually is a book with great depth too!. l would have liked more description of the environment but the story has an allegorical aspect so it wasn't so important that it ruined the story. Faultless narration, perfect for the story
