Publisher's Summary

I'm the Man is the fast-paced, humorous, and revealing memoir from the man who cofounded Anthrax, the band that proved to the masses that brutality and fun didn't have to be mutually exclusive. Through various lineup shifts, label snafus, rock 'n' roll mayhem, and unforeseen circumstances galore, Scott Ian has approached life and music with a smile, viewing the band with deadly seriousness while recognizing the ridiculousness of the entertainment industry. Always performing with abundant energy that revealed his passion for his craft, Ian has never let the gravity of being a rock star go to his shaven, goateed head.

I'm the Man is a blistering hard rock memoir, one that is astonishing in its candor and deftly told by the man who's kept the institution of Anthrax alive for more than 30 years.

"The “Thrax”Boysz that make the Noise"

I’m OLD SCHOOL and my favourite flavour has always been Motõrhead - right from the start. Been on the “piss with the boys etc.” Metallica came along in my circle of friends whilst skateboarding and for me it always has been 2 wheels and so I was the odd sod out ‘cause I was a BMX slave. Moved from Portsmouth in 1984 up to family in West Coast of Scotland for Work.
Anthrax came on the airwaves, my mates were overcome by the energy, the feel etc of the band and I TRIED SHUNNING new music because I’m old school. However, after much harassment from my Skateboard geezers I gave up and afforded half an hour to listen to “Spreading the Disease” and was totally bowled over. They, in my opinion are fresher, sexier and more energetic than two or three certain bands which I’ll not name as this is my personal choice other than to say SLAYER ARE NOT PART OF THAT EQUATION.

At the end of the day, Anthrax, like Motorhead (Lemmy R.I.P - and still owes me a “bar tab bill”) are survivors because the music boasts no bull***t - the music is as honest as the guys themselves. So chuffed Joey back home - that’s not to detract from the fact that Mr Bush is Awesome and should things go belly-up ever again, I’d suspect John would fill. In all, please please read this testament of one of the most iconic bands in “the heavy genre” and even better, do yourself a favour and educate your ears!!!! Thank you very much for the last 35+ years. You’re all awesome. God bless your lad as well 💀🤘🏼

Brilliant and interesting listen from Scott Ian, who has honed his narrative style by touring his spoken words show, which was also amazing. If you love rock or metal, you'll love this one.

    "YES!!!"

Scott Ian IS the man! I've been an Anthrax fan from day one. This book served to open my eyes to a lot of things that went on that we, the fans, had no idea of, and to dispel more than a few rumors. This book came along at exactly the right time. Huge, HUUUUUGE, respect to Scott for bearing his soul to us.

    "I loved it."

I am a big fan of the band and of Scott Ian. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I grew up in the 80s and remember hearing about a lot of these stories. I followed all the big thrash bands of the era. I was lucky enough to get floor tickets for the Big 4 show at Yankee Stadium and it was an awesome concert. It is a great book and a great reading by the author.

    "Scott's The Man!"

I love myself some music history. It's made even better when it comes straight from the horses' mouth - literally, in this case!

I've been wanting to read Scott's book for some time now, but as a slow-ish reader and easily distracted, it hasn't made it to my night stand. Now, with audible - I get to have Scotty 'Not!' Ian read his book TO me - his own voice, his own words.

    I love it.

Great book with some great information not only on Scott's private life (and demons) but the history of Anthrax and the formative years of Thrash Metal!

    "Great stuff!!!"

Loved this audiobook!! It’s alway great when the author reads the audiobook & this book would not have worked if Scott wasn’t the narrator. If you like Anthrax or were into metal & thrash at all in the 80’s this is worth a listen. Lots of get stories & history. Love it & highly recommend it.

"finally, a rockstar that can read his own book"

Scott Ian brings his own words to life, in a way that sadly others cannot, I'm talking to you Sebastian Bach. great book about the band that was the backbone to metal for so long.

    "In depth"
Where does I'm the Man rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Comparing this to other Metal bios this is one of the best. Mustaine's book, for example, was all war stories I've heard over the last 30 years. This book gets into the real meat of his history and would put it up there with some of the best history books I've read.

What about Scott Ian’s performance did you like?

The Fifty-Year Mission, which is a long Star Trek biography. The detail, depth, and perspective is second to none in those two books. Scott Ian covering his own history is equally as deep.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Scott's performance overall. I'd put his narration up there with Michael Caine's autobiography.

    "ehhhhh,,,"

I was excited to see this book having been an Anthrax fan since the beginning, I loved Fist of Metal when it came out, i believe I saw them for the first time at the Bronco bowl in Dallas around 85 or 86, and several more times since, I remember the original Pantera look he speaks of, having seen them hundreds of times. Having said that, I was disappointed to find out how much damage he did to the band over the years, and takes little or no responsibility for all the bad decision he made while he was supposedly at the helm,,, nono it wasnt me, it was Electra, what ever. He spouts new found wisdom as if the rest of the world didnt get that all worked out in their early 20s. Thanks for the sermon genius.
