About the Performer

Carey Mulligan’s passion for acting was ignited when she was merely 6 years old. Upon seeing her brother perform in a school production of The King and I, she was so enamored with the theatrical magic that the director allowed her to join the chorus. From that day on, Mulligan has been an unstoppable force in the world of film and theater. From her first major role in Pride & Prejudice (2005) to her acclaimed, award-winning breakthrough performance in An Education in 2009, Mulligan has proved herself to be one of the most dynamic voices of her generation. In addition to Girls & Boys, she has made a name for herself in the theater circuit with her performance in the much-lauded West End revival of The Seagull at the Royal Court Theatre in 2007.

About the Author

Dennis Kelly is a writer and producer for theater, television, and radio. He wrote and staged his first play, Debris, in his early thirties, and hasn’t stopped since. The productions to his name—more than 23 and counting—include the musical adaptation of Matilda, which won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical. Off stage, Kelly is known from his success on the small screen; he co-wrote the beloved BBC Three sitcom Pulling and penned the well-received action-drama Utopia.

Critic reviews

“This is a one-person show. And what a person. Mulligan is extraordinary in Dennis Kelly’s gripping new play.” (The Observer

“A devastating tour-de-force from Carey Mulligan.” (The Telegraph)

“Lyndsey Turner’s production is a knock-out. A Hollywood megastar holding her own in an experimental but somehow also massively crowd-pleasing solo show - this is pretty rare.” (Time Out London

Incredibly powerful

I missed the show this was based on when it played in London, but Carey Mulligan’s powerhouse performance comes through. even though it’s not, strictly speaking, a radio play. Powerful & devastating.

Brilliant and devastating

Now I am certain that Carey Mulligan is a star. She is utterly convincing and initially scorchingly funny, finally amazing. A Talking head for the MeToo generation. An extraordinary play done proud by this production.

All the emotions

The writing of this monologue takes you to some incredible places - both good and very, very bad. Just when you think you know what's coming, it changes course and ends up in some deeply different straits that are more uncomfortable than you could ever have fathomed.

Interesting ideas .. but the play became predictable

Well performed, without perhaps rising to the heights Carey Mulligan is capable of.

It was an interesting idea.. but gave it’s own spoilers & became somewhat predictable. The end was messy and went into preaching & listing facts.

Worth a listen but didn’t quite nail it for me.

Bloody hell, wasn’t expecting this storyline
Very powerful, am surprised that this was written by a man as I wouldn’t have realised unless his name had been on he cover.

If you can’t get to the West End

Brilliant writing - Paris is Leeds with wider streets - and a powerful, believable performance - sex, grime, puke and lots of humour, shame if you missed the show - but as long as London is regarded as the only place in England that wants culture - this is the next best thing.
