Summary

Undoubtedly one of the most celebrated tales of all time, this is both high-octane thriller and fascinating travelogue. Phileas Fogg, intrepid Victorian gentleman about town, accepts a wager that he cannot travel around the world in 80 days. Naturally, he immediately sets off, accompanied by his French manservant, Passepartout. They are pursued by a police officer, Detective Fix, who is foolishly convinced that Fogg is a bank robber. Much hilarity ensues. On the way, Fogg bravely rescues Aouda, a beautiful Indian princess, from a ceremony of ritual sacrifice. Unexpectedly, our thriller becomes a love story.

Absolutely Gripping

A fantastic story set in the Victorian world, with ups and downs and a fair bit of sly humour, all conveyed superbly by the narrator, who never fails to keep you deeply enthralled in the plot and the characters.

Pick this up, you won't regret it.

Fun, exciting, original adventure!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this classic book, the narration of which was pretty perfect, doing the excellent story writing justice. This is a fun adventure story! Modern readers will notice several derogatory racial slurs and stereotypes, but they aren’t the dominant trend, and on the flip side, the British white colonialism that was flourishing at this point in history is also often referred to, often in disparaging ways. I wouldn’t let these few antiquated ways prevent me from enjoying the story, and I am of an ethnicity referred to terribly within the book, so I’m not saying that from a standpoint of being untouched by it. I really loved the characters and twists and turns the story took. All around this is a great performance of a classic adventure story, and made the perfect, much needed distraction from the pains of the 2021 news cycle.

Very good!

A good story that everyone roughly knows and a fantastic performance once again from Bill Homewood. If you have not listened to him reading The Count of Monte Cristo this is an absolute must. Thanks again Bill!

Narration Outstanding

Plot is a tad light in complexity and the characters are bland. Not aged well.

Marvellous tale of adventure

I have loved this book since reading it first as a child. It really is a work of escapism and is beautifully written. Sadly it is read in a ridiculously hammy way by Bill Homewood who seems to think it necessary to become a stereotypical "Victorian Gentleman" straight out of central casting. His pompous style of delivery becomes extremely wearing.

A classic

Very enjoyable rendering of this classic novel which I first read over 50 years ago so had mostly forgotten.

Brilliant

Loved every minute of this. Narrator is fantastic and really brings the characters to life. I never read this before and I’m glad it didn’t as the audible was so good!
