About this listen

In 2025, the moon hatched and its child died. Things have since gotten worse.

Some people have superpowers now, but so do the extradimensional invaders slowly wiping humanity out. By Julietta's eighteenth birthday, the war has been loss after loss for far longer than she's been alive, so she can't bring herself to be terribly shocked when the sky splits in half and weeps death. Surviving is the real surprise.

Unexpectedly gaining the powers of a shapeshifter, Julietta can change into any living thing she has touched, mixing and matching parts with flesh as mutable as flowing water... Except when she tries to return to her original form. Trapped behind enemy lines in someone else's skin, Julietta must adapt to new powers, new bodies, and new threats, all just to survive. But when she makes it out, will she still be Julietta?

I often struggle with superpower stories as often they often show unrealistic response to sudden appearance of walking and talking weapons of mass destruction. This story does it very well! I find it very believable that governments and organisations treat superpower as any other form of power and try to control it.

I really enjoyed this story

Interesting take on super powers and first contact

This author really loves to explore themes of trauma and how people struggle with various psychological conditions on the backdrop of fantastical Eldridge horror. It’s just genuinely good the personal highlight of this book for me. Wasn’t the really good action sequences but showing a person caring for someone with severe executive dysfunction and finding it frustrating but still caring and doing it anyway it’s a definite improvement comparing it to their previous works but as a whole I honestly prefer the grim dark Sailor Moon not to say this book is bad by any means they’re just a good author and if you want to book that might help you process some of your own trauma through seeing characters deal with relatable struggles in a bizarre dramatic fantastical setting you’re probably find something very compelling and touching in one of their books. This might be the one for you or maybe a different one of their series will really tug on your heart strings they explore a lot of different issues and experiences, and I’m sure one of their books will be for you, but even if you can’t relate to any of the issues in the books there’s still a genuinely fantastic writer and the fantastical and dramatic situations and just good characters. I’m sure we’ll keep you very invested, even if you’re not in it for The. Processing emotional trauma.

Natalie has a way of making very interesting plots, just like her previous books she nails the strange eldrichly monsters attacking the world. They also add hints of more depth into they potential sentience and more than meets the eye which is what i want to know more about, however that will have to wait because once they get to safety, theres no more more monster fighting. WHICH ISNT BAD.

This is because we get the second thing Natalie is good at, Writing interesting yet mentally unwell characters case and point, the MCs struggle to maintain her sense of self and mind. This i liked even tho sometimes certain areas felt long winded and waaay to long to get to the point.

Emily while testing my patience with her secrets draws me back when the reason is revealed, Christine being frustating as hell and being unreliable during attack is understandable with her condition and ya know... being a teen in a hell scap, Anna is just str8 badass for a 9 year old. All these blend so well into and I look forward to the next book.

Interesting listen

Beautifully detailed body horror and super traumatised characters are what I came for and this delivered.
The cast are a delightful selection of weridos with Anastasia as a personal favourite. Really look forward to seeing just how badly things will go for them in the next one.
