About this listen

Archer

I've spent the last fifteen years becoming the most sought-after divorce attorney in Vancouver. I use every hidden fact and every psychological trick to protect my clients and get the best settlements possible. I have a wait-list for my services a mile long.

The problem?

I didn’t see my own divorce coming. My wife cheated on me and now I’m alone. I decided as long as I was rebuilding my life, this was the time to explore the bisexual side I'd shelved since college. And hell yeah, I do like men, but the idea of one-night stands leaves me feeling empty. Might the right person still be out there for me? Should I go back to dating women?

I just don’t know.

Archer’s Awakening is a 6k steamy gay romance short story about a man on the precipice of a new life yet struggling to leave his old life before.

Quick intro to Archer who is one of the MC's in the 5th A Love in Mission City book.

Archer off the back of a divorce from his wife decides to plan a hookup with a man to jump back into the dating game. He finds himself questioning "is this even the guy I was talking to?!" We've all been there pal.

I wouldn't call this a short story. It was simply a prologue to another book and only featuring the one MC, though we get a hint of whom the other MC will be.

The character was likeable and I liked his backstory. He intrigued me enough to read the next book.

He is 39 and is someone who is looking for a real connection but he's gorgeous and most people just want the physical, so even though he's bi, he hasn't been with anyone since his ex wife. He works hard as a lawyer and takes care of his family as well as works for free to help domestic violence victims. He was betrayed by his now ex wife that cheated on him after 15 years together. He is about to move to Mission City on weekends.

I love MD. His voice is wonderful to listen to. He kept a good pace and expressed all the emotions. There are very few side characters but he gave everyone thier own distinct voice that suited the characters. He really brought the story to life.

Great character development

Be aware, this is a very short story (less than an hour) introduction to Archer. Archer is the most sought-after divorce attorney in Vancouver, top of his game...until his wife leaves him for another man. Since he's now free, Archer decides to indulge his bi side (from a long past college romance). However the guy he picked up from an app doesn't turn out to be quite what he expected. The whole vignette is funny, especially the self-pleasuring scene, but it's really just a prequel to the upcoming full-length Mission City book Gideon's Gratitude. After listening to this story, I like Archer, and I am looking forward to reading more about him and his reclusive new neighbor in GG.

Michael Dean provided a fantastic narration. He really captured the essence of the characters, making the story humorous without being OTT or campy.

My 5-star rating is based on the quality of the story for what it is, a short character background and introduction. I didn't dock any stars for it being short.

This story served as a short introduction to the character of Archer, a divorce lawyer whose own divorce hit him by surprise (or did it?), whom we meet more fully in Love in Mission City book 5 (Gideon's Gratitude).

He is now free to explore his bisexuality fully, but after a failed attempt at a hookup in Vancouver, he decides to head to his soon-to-be country house escape in Mission City.

Is it necessary to read this prologue/character introduction first? Possibly not, but as the audiobook is less than an hour long, I found it a fun way to give us some character depth and backstory leading into the next full-length book. Plus, as it is narrated by Michael Dean, the audiobook is great for an afternoon listen!

Archer is a divorce lawyer who finds himself at the tail end of his own divorce, ironically.
He's reminiscing over past regrets and contemplating what his next move will be.
I can't wait to see his HEA unfold.
Michael Dean did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.
