Summary

Predictive modeling uses statistics in order to predict outcomes. However, predictive modeling can be applied to events regardless of time of occurrence. When it comes to the applications of predictive modeling, techniques are used in various fields including algorithmic trading, uplift modeling, archaeology, health care, customer relationship management, and many others. This book covers the predictive modeling process with fundamental steps of the process, data preprocessing, data splitting and crucial steps of model tuning and improving model performance.

Further, the book will introduce you to the most common classification and regression techniques including logistic regression which is widely used when it comes to the finding the probability of event success or event failure. You will get to know the common predictive modeling techniques as well such as stepwise regression, polynomial regression, and ridge regression which will help you when you are dealing with the data that suffers from very common multicollinearity where independent variables are highly correlated.

What you will learn in Applied Predictive Modeling:

  • Most common predictive modeling techniques
  • Types of regression models
  • The overall predictive modeling process
  • Fundamental steps to effective and highly accurate predictive modeling
  • How to build predictive model with logistic regression with code listings
  • How to build predictive model using Python
  • How to enhance your model performance
  • Parameters for increasing the overall predictive power
  • How to handle class imbalance
  • Common causes of poor model performance

So bad it should be taken off Audible

Only went through a small area of predictive modelling. Very bad overview of the subject area by someone who clearly only has limited experience with it. None of the results were backed up by statistical science, rather this book only shows ways to extrapolate past data while completely neglecting non regression models. On top of this the performance was terrible, putting emphasis on every sentence as if he's doing a read for a commercial, the inflection was in completely the wrong place showing how this narrator has almost no understanding of the subject matter. This was made even worse when the entire last third of the second chapter was an atrocious reading of source code. It just shows how little the author cares for this book that that was left in the final version as is. So bad it should be taken off Audible 1/5.

perfect book

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone interested in learning about
Applied Predictive Modeling from scratch and would say it is the best resource available among all other Applied Predictive Modeling books.

Informative book

This is my favorite book it is full of important information and it's always clear to understand the voice of the narrator, highly suggested.

Excellent book

I like the book, everyone raves about it for good reason. I found the narrator really annoying but pushed through it - very useful and highly recommended.

Works best

Just started listening to this audiobook and I'm very excited to start learning. I purchased another book in the past that I did not like. The information was very hard and I just lost interest. This book seems to focus on simple information.

Book probably better in print...

This book is poorly suited for audio format. The narrator could have done a better job by adding some energy to his performance.

Just what I was looking for!

It is a very good book easy to listen and follow but I found that is necessary to all who in need of this topic..
