Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Every life is both ordinary and extraordinary, and Logan Mountstuart's - stretching across the 20th century - is a rich tapestry of both. As a writer who finds inspiration with Hemingway in Paris and Virginia Woolf in London, as a spy recruited by Ian Fleming and betrayed in the war and as an art-dealer in '60s New York, Logan mixes with the men and women who shape his times. But as a son, friend, lover and husband, he makes the same mistakes we all do in our search for happiness. Here, then, is the story of a life lived to the full - and a journey deep into a very human heart.

Dull, uninspiring and superficial

I have persevered with this audiobook as it was highly recommended on a TV book show, however I have found it dull, uninspiring and superficial. There is little depth of character to the personalities and little feel for the times and places the novel is situated. The narration is the same, though fairly professional, it is also dull and boring, with awful pronunciation of the Spanish and French words.
I started listening to another book then tried coming back to this. That only made it worse, highlighting the contrast between the two.
Very disappointing. I won't be trusting recommendations from that show again!

Exceptional

Beautifully worded. A wondrous story meandering through a century of history. Well narrated. He uses the English language as it should be used.

This book made me cry...

I loved this book, but initially found the narrator a little distant hence the four stars. By the end I really felt that he had fully engaged with the story and by then I would have given him a full thumbs up! But this is actually how the book goes... it just takes time to get going and this comes across in the narration but be patient you will come to absolutely love LMS and live every moment with him. Another excellent book from this author.

Everything and nothing happens, I both loved and disliked LMS, the main character...thoroughly enjoyed though couldn’t say why.
