Incas

Have you always wanted to learn about the great Inca Empire, but your teachers refused to listen? Are you confused between Inca, Aztec, and Maya? Do you want to learn how the Inca people were unique from their Mesoamerican predecessors? Could you even draw the Inca Empire on a map? All this and more will be covered within this audiobook!

Inside this book, you will find:

  • How an empire grew from such humble, and hostile, beginnings
  • The geographic location of the empire
  • An in-depth look at the Incan gods
  • The terrible civil war
  • The conquistadors
  • And more

Maya Civilization

This book’s coverage begins with the development of the Maya through the ancient eras.

Inside this book, you will find the following:

  • The history of the Maya people and where their civilization began and expanded from
  • How the name “Maya” came to be used for these people
  • Results of the Spanish conquest of Mesoamerica and what it meant for the Maya
  • Why archaeologists believe the Maya empire fell
  • And much more!

The Byzantine Empire

The history of the Byzantine Empire tells a tale of monumental victories and equally significant defeats - of a phoenix rising from the ashes over and over again, until it simply ran out of miracles.

In this book, you will learn about:

  • The division of east and west
  • The Fall of Rome
  • Justinian’s Golden Age
  • Iconoclasm
  • The Crusades
  • The final fall

Informative

This is a well written book that takes a look at the Mayan people and their history. A very interesting book that is easy to read and never gets long or boring (something quite impressive for a history book.) I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

Simplistic but helpful intro to the Maya

very simplistic language and tone (e.g. first person to reader direct storytelling style, with exclamations). May be more suited to young adult readers or those who are generally suspicious of or uncomfortable with different cultures or people. I think the language and style may be intended to allay that discomfort.

Wonderful

The book will also track down the Maya living today, a population that is still six-million strong and adhere to many of the traditions that their ancestors once held. In among the battle tales and gore of human sacrifice, you will get some delicious cocoa recipes, Maya-style, that you can make at home. You will learn about their mythology, cosmology, and the solar calendar that resulted in the infamous doomsday scare

Well written

This is a well written easy to understand book on the Mayan, Aztecs, and Incas. It kind of feels like you are reading cliff notes for an exam but adds a significant amount of detail to the topics.

Overall Good

I expected something a little bigger. Overall, the book covers the subject sufficiently for anyone not wanting a ton of information. It also covers a lot of geography. It was a gift for my brother and he is pleased.

Nice

They are written simply but really showcase the author’s knowledge and appreciation for these cultures, especially within the historical context. I would highly recommend both books to casual readers and those just getting interested in the pre-Colombian Americas. When considering my overall enjoyment, these two deserve five stars.

A Brief Introduction

Very brief introductions too many ancient civilizations. This book covers more than I expected and has been an excellent "intro" listening to for our unit on Ancient Civilizations.

A One book for history lovers.

This is very in depth. I honorably have a hard time following along with books like this for some reason, but I still enjoyed the Mayan History. I love the Aztecs, and Inca Empire and would love to travel their one day.

I recommend this book for students

This book is both complex and fun at the same time, and I enjoyed reading through it. This is definitely a book that is going to take a while to fully read and absorb everything, but if you love ancient cultures and history you're going to love this.

Nevertheless a great book.

It is amazing audible, that so much of how the world’s situation has been (and continues to be) shaped by the ancient beginnings of our distant past. The author puts out a detailed but entertaining account of the events of Mayan History, the Aztecs, and Inca Empire.

The story, the history, the excellence.

It was never a dull listening. One gets the sense of a global soap opera in the making. In depth to say the least. This is an excellent value book. The author writes with passion and a deep background of knowledge and it shows in his work.
