The Sunday Times best seller from the number one best-selling author of The Couple Next Door.

We can’t choose the strangers we meet.

As the guests arrive at beautiful, remote Mitchell’s Inn, they’re all looking forward to a relaxing weekend deep in the forest, miles from anywhere. They watch their fellow guests with interest, from a polite distance.

Usually we can avoid the people who make us nervous, make us afraid.

With a violent storm raging, the group finds itself completely cut off from the outside world. Nobody can get in - or out. And then the first body is found...and the horrifying truth comes to light. There’s a killer among them - and nowhere to run.

Until we find ourselves in a situation we can’t escape. Trapped.

Gripping tale

I enjoyed this book which was definitely written in the style of Agatha Christie. Whilst not a patch on Dame Agatha’s classics which, to me, will never be beaten, it was a good and gripping book. The setting was perfect and the story thrilling and difficult to put down. I did had to park believability to one side as the plot stretched reality quite thinly, but that aside I really enjoyed it. Narration was good bit not outstanding.

Middling murder mystery.

Not nearly as good as the previous books of the author I have read or heard.
The tone of the narrator was very monotonous.

Modern Day Agatha Christie

It was no 'And Then There Was One' but It did keep me guessing until the end. I did enjoy it.

The story has nothing new to offer!

It is a very weak story. You can finf these characters in any other story. it feels like, the writer has written the whole thing in a week!

Loved The Couple Next Door but not this

It was so mundane, a murder mystery so similar to a an Agatha Christie book I expected Miss Marple rock up at any time!

disappointing book.

I didn't like that everyone had to have a dark story behind them. I didn't like the reveal. I thought the second reveal was better and it made sense. yes the first reveal of the murderer made sense but it was just disappointing. i had to finish the book. oh well it was a story with a very big potential but it was ruined by nonsense that was not needed at all. I found myself in chapter 4 somehow and still wasn't gripped. I had taken a break from reading as I had just read 3 amazing books back to back and I didn't want to ruin the memory. and now the first book I read after a while turns out to be so disappointing. anyway I'm rumbling now. ugh

Generic Murder Mystery

Stunned that this has so many positive reviews - sounded like an interesting thriller and despite the generic premise assumed there would be something different about it.

Wow, was I wrong! Everything about it was unbelievably unimaginative - I kept waiting for something interesting to happen.

Didn't help either that it felt like it was being read by Siri.

Also, way too many characters, I had to keep trying to remember who they actually were.

Good little mystery

This was a little bit akin to And Then There Were None, though I can’t credit it with being in Christie “golden age of murder” league! But it was a good audio page turner, nicely ticking plot, well narrated and genuinely kept me listening to get to the denouement. Would make a good TV film.

I felt like I was actually there!

The build up of learning about the characters was deftly done. Chilling in parts. Didn't want it to end.
