Summary

Christmas on the remote Scottish island of Mure is bleak, stark - and incredibly beautiful.

It's a time for hunkering down, getting cosy in front of whisky barrel wood fires and enjoying a dram with the people you love - unless, of course, you're accidentally pregnant to your ex-boss and don't know how to tell him. In what should be the season of peace and goodwill on earth, will Joel think Flora is a bearer of glad tidings?

Meanwhile Saif, the doctor and refugee from war-torn Syria, is trying to enjoy his first Western Christmas with his sons - but without his missing wife. Can the little family possibly find comfort and joy?

Travel to the beautiful northern edge of the world and join the welcoming community of Mure for an unforgettable Christmas.

So sad!!!

This story is beautifully written, dramatic, gripping and atmospheric. It is however, terribly, terribly sad. Do not expect cheerful Christmas chick lit with this book because it is wonderful but in a very different way. I found myself unable to stop listening, especially towards the end and crying through most of it. Most Christmas books at this time of year are cheerful and full of seasonal optimism - be warned - this is a very different kettle of fish. Wonderful, well written and well narrated.....
Well done Miss Colgan!

Great Story but the little girls voice............

I Loved this book however the little girls voice was driving be around the bend. It was the only thing that spoiled the book. Otherwise a great book to listen too.

Very very good!

I have enjoyed this series a lot, and this is, for me at least, the best so far.

The writer manages to convey the magic and mystery of the Northern Isles with the grittiness and hardships of living there. She also doesn’t shy away from various harsh conditions and situations from around the world from which Mure isn’t immune, despite its isolated location.

This is a bit syrupy in places, and probably has an unrealistically happy and satisfying ending, but it is not standard chic lit by any means, and leaves certain storylines open and unresolved as they would be in real life, of course.

I loved it: the characters are warm, believable and real, and the narration is wonderful, absolutely perfect. I can’t wait to go back to Mure.

A lovely treat for my time off

it was mid summer when I tucked into this and a lovely treat during my time off. Especially since during 2 of the days we had gale force winds outside which kind of represented the weather on the wee Island of Mure and so it seemed like I was in the story. The narrator was easy on the ear and the story line flowed along nicely. I'll miss the characters now the book has finished.

A Christmas treat.

Cosy and comforting, like a glass of single malt by the fire on a snowy night.
