Summary

The small town of Newton-upon-Sea is stunned by the death of a retired admiral of Her Majesty's Navy and even more shocked at the state in which he is found. Everyone except Dr. Alexandra Gladstone assumes that he took a drunken fall from a cliff.  

Along with Nancy, Alexandra's maid, the London barrister Nicholas Forsythe, and her faithful dog Zack, Alexandra will battle local authorities, morticians, and the gossip of the town in order to learn the truth. When she does, the truth is worse than she could ever have imagined.

Narration not to my taste

It was hard to rate the story for this book because I couldn't get beyond the narration, even though I tried. I downloaded it a second time because there seemed to be a problem with the first attempt. The narrator, I am sorry to say, was sort of robotic and with too much intonation both at the same time. She seemed to start relaxing with her narration occasionally, but only for a few words. The sample doesn't really show how bad it is. Maybe with more practise she will get better, relaxing into narrating. It takes a lot for me to return a book, but this one is definitely going back.
