Summary

Once London's top thief, Barclay Pearce has turned his back on his life of crime and now uses his skills for a nation at war. But not until he rescues a clockmaker's daughter from a mugging does he begin to wonder what his future might hold.

Evelina Manning has constantly fought for independence, but she certainly never meant for it to inspire her fiance to end the engagement and enlist in the army. When the intriguing man who saved her returns to the Manning residence to study clockwork repair with her father, she can't help being interested.

But she soon learns that nothing with Barclay Pearce is as simple as it seems. As 1915 England plunges ever deeper into war, the work of an ingenious clockmaker may give England an unbeatable military edge - and Germany realizes it as well. Evelina's father soon finds his whole family in danger - and it may just take a reformed thief to steal the time they need to escape.

Amazing

I grew up reading Grace Livingston Hill, even though she was from a generation 40 years ahead of head me. My grandmother introduced her to me.
Roseanna M White is a Ms Hill for the current generation. Full of faith, Gods love, fun, mystery and true love between a man and woman.
I have loved every book I’ve read so far.
Thank you.

Barclay fan

I love Barclay! This was just as exciting and heartfelt as the others in this series but even better because Barclay gets to live it. He finally finds people who respect and love him both in spite of and because of his past. The family grows and changes yet remains the same warm, welcoming, inclusive bunch. So good.

Barclay's Story is Everything Worth Waiting For

I knew I was going to love Barclay's story from the moment I knew there was a Barclay Pearce. This excellent thief, big brother extraordinaire, man-as-real-as-they-come is everything worth waiting for, and so was his story.

Roseanna M. White has a rare skill when it comes to storytelling, and an even rarer ability to weave the Gospel like threads of gold through her stories. Unimposing, ever present, glinting only when the sunlight strikes it. An Hour Unspent is no exception to either talent.

This third book in the Shadow Over England Series explores the truth of family, of love, loyalty, and sacrifice. And I dare you to finish it without fighting back the urge to gather up every lonely child into your arms, feed and clothe even your enemy, and to never put your loved ones at risk when it's within your power to improve your chances.

Also, don't fight that urge.

It might carry risks. But with the greatest risks.... (I'll let you figure that one out).

Hours Listening, Well Spent

Absolutely LOVED it! Roseanna White has created an adventure filled masterpiece! Mystery, intrigue, war and a wonderful family. One of my favorite paragraphs; "But family isn't blood-you know that. It should be, but it isn't, not always. Family is choice. Love."
These words touch my heart in ways I cannot express. There is a message of faith, new faith for Barclay, learning to trust in something other than the street smarts he learned as a means to survive. I loved seeing this and the example he sets for the family.
Barclay meets, Evelina Manning saving her from a mugging. No spoilers from me. You must listen to or read their story yourself. I've done both.(Read the paperback and listened to the Audible version.)
The narrator is, once again, fantastic! I'm so glad the same person was used for the series.
I highly recommend this book!
