Summary

An Apple a Day turns the spotlight on sayings that we take for granted, examining their often surprising or fascinating origins, their use, and why they are true – or sometimes aren’t...

From wise words originating with the Old Testament and other ancient texts, by way of practical sayings that have gone into the language, to relatively modern gems often coined by poets, writers or philosophers, An Apple a Day shows that most proverbs are as useful today as they ever were when they were newly minted.

Not great

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Kim Hicks?

The narrator used for the authors previous book, a classical education.

Do you think An Apple a Day needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I wouldn't buy a follow up on this book however I would be willing to try a book by the same author on a different topic.

Any additional comments?

Having read the author's previous work, A Classical Education, which was excellent, I had high hopes for this. Unfortunately this was a disappointing listen which I couldn't finish. I'm not sure if it was just the narrator or if the book is just missing the witty style of the aforementioned title but I just didn't find it enjoyable however much I tried.

I'll have an apple anytime.

Witty, well paced, well written and very well narrated. What more can be said. Definitely a read/listen again book.
