A hard listen but entertaining

I vaguely remember the watching the film but it was so long ago I came to this nearly fresh. Some difficult parts in here. Lots of violent, sexual imagery. But, I found, quite a lot of humour in there too. Great narration too. Managed to really pace and deliver the words to a high standard.

I feel disturbed

Thoroughly sickening and mind halting. The book has put me off eating eggs for a while. I really enjoyed this book.

Pornographic snuff. I need a shower

Disgusting book, seriously feel like I need a shower after reading this. Interesting social commentary, however.

Had to be read but I think once will do

What can I say that has not been said. It is brilliant but in a hideous way. The fantastic mix of bland lists of clothing, food and technology, from times gone by, with the most grotesque descriptions I have ever heard.
Net result a fantastic and addictive listen.

Not as cumbersome as the book

I read American Psycho years ago and really struggled with it, but ploughed through.

I thought I'd give it a go listening to the audiobook. Have to say the narrator did a fantastic job, but the story is just as difficult to follow as it was in print.

Bateman's incessant listing of material goods and items of clothing comes across really well as an audiobook, but, and maybe it's just me, I still struggled with what Easton Ellis was trying to achieve, other than perhaps to shock at some of the more explicit passages. If there's some hidden meaning there it completely passed me by!

perfect for audiobook

the first person perspective and great, Christian bale-esque performance combine for a brilliant listen. truly disturbing.

Thrilling

One of my favourite books by Bret Easton Ellis. I had read the paper back many years ago, but there’s something more enticing and engaging about the audio narration. It’s utterly compelling, and marvellously delivered. The story is cleverly, often intensely written, to divulge the complex nature of Patrick Bateman, and his acute attention to detail. Those criticising the writing of attire descriptions or graphic sex and murder chapters seem to miss the necessity of such to explore Bateman’s dismantling mindset and intricate character.

It’s a book not for the easily disturbed, but a must-read for lovers of serial killers, psychology, and horror.

Not for the faint of heart

It's a very unusual and interesting book which I thoroughly enjoyed, in spite of the occasionally uncomfortable depictions of violence. The narrator was a perfect fit - somehow sounding exactly like Christian Bale in the film version - with excellent command of pace, tone and voices.

Incredible writing style and phenomenal performance, feels like Patrick Bateman himself is reading to me
