Story
Teenager Amanda Castle was like a lot of people, posting pictures of her everyday life to a variety of social media sites. Not everyone who viewed her pictures was there to share in her experiences. One was there to steal her profile pictures. A terrorist in Frankfurt was desperate to please his leadership. He planned the perfect attack, one in which vulnerable people would be invited through social media to participate in a flash mob. There, the unwitting participants, thinking they were taking part in a random act of kindness, would find themselves engaged in a random act of terror.

If you've never read a Repairman Jack novel, this is the place to begin. It's 1990. A twenty-one-year-old named Jack has dropped out of college, leaving his old life behind to build a new one in New York City. Manhattan's rough edges are jagged enough to shred any unwary newcomer, but perhaps not one who is determined to stay off the grid, at any cost, in the busiest metropolis on earth. And to do so, he'll have to take jobs of a less than legal nature.

Summary
This is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller set in America at the beginning of a socioeconomic collapse. Although an innocent casualty of the chaos, one young man must discover his inner strength and defiant courage as he comes of age learning how to survive in the wasteland of failing services, unemployment, and violence.
With the economy in free fall, the government crippled by indecision, the streets taken over by new political parties, and the fragile institutions of civilization crumbling, a young man finds himself homeless and alone on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., facing certain death unless he can master survival skills he never imagined needing. Fending off violent citizens in an urban landscape that is gradually sliding into looting and mayhem, the protagonist emerges as an ultimate force of justice in a lawless land.
This compelling, fast-paced novel pulls readers in and lets them experience first-hand what life in the United States will be like as its teetering society begins to fall.

It was OK.
The story was alright. The main character seems to have a problem with white conservatives. Every bad guy fits this profile and he seems to get mad whenever he comes across one.
Also the narrator drove me crazy. He makes the characters all sound like John Wayne.

Interesting thought piece
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Somewhat discombobulated story but a relatively well thought our universe...it's almost as if the author thought out an interesting world and then contrived ways to get his characters into the right place to view it.

Read Book-2 First
Any additional comments?
As someone mention in another review, someone goofed by releasing this book after Book-2....I read Book-2 first.
I thoroughly enjoyed Book-2 but found myself filling in a lot of missing information. This book filled in all that information and I enjoyed it too. This book was also filled with action and kept me interested throughout. I do like the narrator, he does have a bit of a John Wayne twist...but it grew on me, I liked it. I'd read more from this author...

Could have been Great
The story is like something written by pre-teen boys dreaming about what they would do after the end of the world, which is fight crime, apparently. Completely unrealistic and offering very little in the way of gritty realism that us fans of the apocalypse genre enjoy.
The characters never use contractions in their dialog. So, aside from being solid and complete stereotypes, they sound like idiotic robots or foreigners the whole time.
I've read all the apocalypse books, and if you love them like I do, save this one for the very last or don't bother at all. It's only saving grace was it's length, a short 8 hours. Also it gives me hope that anyone can be a writer. I won't be continuing on with the series.

This is how Freedom Dies
If you could sum up American Apocalypse in three words, what would they be?
Sh*t happens, people change
What did you like best about this story?
The people and how the government changes, very real.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Never turn your back on the government when you think it's dead...it's not.
Any additional comments?
Not to happy with the ending and the fantasy aspect of it. There was no warning that the story was going to head that direction.

Whew glad when it was over hated to waste my money
This is only the second book I've gotten that I found I had made a mistake in buying.
Bored me to death the talking in the second person character really left me dulled out.
The story was poor and I think the title was far more exciting than the text of the book.
Won't be going back to this author any time soon.

Narrator the worst I've heard.
If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know there have been some narrators who are bad, but this one is the only one that caused me to stop listening to a story. The story wasn't enough to overcome the narrator. If there was a 0 stars button for the narrator I would give it.

Not great
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Maybe it's just me but not a great listen. For my first time ever I could barely listen because of the narrator. I forced myself to listen. The story was mediocre as well with a lot left to the readers interpretation.
Would you recommend American Apocalypse to your friends? Why or why not?
No. Just not a good read
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erik Sandvold?
Anyone might have been better. The guy sounded like a pompous jerk and turned me off toward the main character immediately
Did American Apocalypse inspire you to do anything?
No
Any additional comments?
None
