Summary

This audio is the new and expanded third edition of American Accent Training, with four all-new chapters that cover the psychology of accent acquisition, American voice quality, a pronunciation overview, and an ESL instructor's guide. The audio features professional male and female voices that have been carefully selected to represent that perfect American accent. With 30 years of extensive research, the unique AAT methodology has been refined to teach the American sound quickly and easily, paying special attention to:

  • Voice quality, with emphasis on accurate presentation of the authentic American sound
  • Pronunciation, with attention to all vowels, consonants, blends, and diphthongs
  • Intonation, which focuses on syllable stress rules and word stress in a sentence
  • Linking, or liaisons between phonetically transcribed sounds so students can "see" the sound.

Added features include access to comprehensive websites and referral to a qualified telephone analyst for individual help.

American Accent Training has been Americanizing the speaking habits of students and businesspeople since 1991. Going where no accent training has gone before, AAT continues to set the standard for anyone learning or teaching the American accent.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Don't buy this. I feel cheated

Would you try another book from Ann Cook and/or Ann Cook and Marcus Harwell ?

Never after this. The audio book is giving you directions to follow a visual guide that apparently is not in the market.

Would you ever listen to anything by Ann Cook again?

I feel furious with Audible. What is the use of recommending a guide that has been rejected by Amazon? I didn't realize it at the beginning -the title is the same as the one sold along with 5 CDs. Misleading title, misled reader.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Ann Cook and Marcus Harwell ?

Narrators are ok, though most of the recording is chaotic and there are very few and short exercises. It looks like it is recommending you to make an effort in improving your accent while not giving you the proper stuff to do it.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger and disappointment.

Any additional comments?

Please, do the same a Amazon has done. The book is not been sold because of serious quality problems, according to the web.

Great tool to improve your accent.

This is my personal trainer to improve my speaking. I used it on a weekly basis.

THE WORST BOUGHT ITEM EVER

What would have made American Accent Training better?

To have the complete course or to know in advance that this was just a part of it. Nothing is doable with the audiobook

Would you ever listen to anything by Ann Cook again?

Not really.

What didn’t you like about Ann Cook and Marcus Harwell ’s performance?

The sound is higher in some parts, there is no harmony in the transitions, there is no material to follow the course.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment

Any additional comments?

They should have put in clear terms the kind of book this is. You have to buy the audiobook and then you need 100 USD to start using it.
