A good narrative history

Any additional comments?

This is a good narrative history written for the general reader. The author has served as a Sec of Education, which makes his take on things interesting.

I am impressed

This is an excellent and well written history of America's beginnings. I thought that the author would shy away from the controversial subjects of America's past and put a spin on things. He paints a picture of history "warts and all" intead of "warts and that is all".

I would recommend this for any high school or college student that needs a well done history book on America's origins.

Excellent

This author has done his homework. I have read other American historical books such as "1776" and "John Adams" to name a few, yet I have found this book to be more exciting. It is written in chronological order and makes important connections throughtout the United States' history that explains why things happened the way they did. After listening to this book it is even more obvious that only the hand of God could keep the Union together and guide the Founding Fathers. You will need to listen closely as a wealth of information is offered in every sentence. Enjoy.

Completely Enlightening and Entertaining

Lets face it, most of us average public school prodigies need to be entertained to keep us focused. With books its as true as ever. The narrator (Wayne Sheppard) has a solid voice with just the right inflections in the right places. The information conveyed is very easy to grasp. My mind enjoys learning in themes, stories, and facts. This book is all that. Very worth the price.

A Superb Gloss of American History

Bennet does a terrific job of maintaining the reader's interest in this excellent gloss of US History. He covers plenty of detail but in such a way that one does not even realize you're learning. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

DO NOT BUY- The Book is Missing several chapters

I purchased this book for my child, who has dyslexia, as it was school required reading. Only to find that randomly several chapters are MISSING. Very disapointed in Audible, are there no editors checking to ensure that the books are complete?

Excellent and exciting history

I'd recommend this to anyone for an accessible and well-rounded history of the US. I particularly like how he briefly covers the discovery and pre-history of our colonization.

The American Story

A fantastic account of our American Heritage! An in depth account of America's journey through existence. The author, William (Bill) Bennet's, perspective and expertise are well demonstrated and thoroughly researched as well as, the narrator's demeanour and tone in matching with the cadence of the nation. Fantastic Book!

Readable American History

A very readable, hard to put down history of America. The author does not shy away from presenting the negative as well as the positive moments of the American story. The narration was well done. This is a long presentation but I didn't grow weary of listening.

Great book, great scope for kids education

The books are long when taken together but sufficiently detailed that my kids can get interested in reading about the history without getting bored. They really don't get a balanced education these days with the liberal bias they get from almost everything taught in public school. Essentially reading IMHO to give your kids a better balance and context to interpret todays events.

Also like the optimism embedded in the narrative, though with today's narratives surrounding democracy the world over I hope it is still appropriate. Ultimately after reading this book(s) I hope my kids begin to build a foundation enabling them to understand issues such as democracy being just one of many natural rights and not necessarily essential to a well functioning government. Only one thing certain in life is change and a solid foundational underpinning will help them understand what importance to attach to unfolding events. This book will help them build their foundation IMHO.

America - The Last Best Hope Volume 1

This was the first book that I selected from my Audible membership and it was well worth the investment. I recommend the book as part of a full home schooling agenda. It is a great history resource as part of the whole set. Dr. William J. Bennett knows how to put together a complete and true picture of our American History.
