As a Junior Doctor 10 years post graduation I was sceptical about this book but curious.
I was struck by the affinity I felt with soooo many of the case examples discussed and the issues discussed.
This really does shin a light on the reality of being a junior doctor working in the nhs, and how much change still needs to happen.
This book shins a light on progress still required, it is very brave, I have great admiration for Caroline and the work she does.
I only wish I had access to her help sooner!!!!!
She does amazing work.

Also Human serves as a reminder to doctors we are not infallible, as educators we have a duty of care to our juniors and students who will succeed us, and to the general public who might start to realise we are a resource to use wisely. Take care of us, so we can keep taking the very best care of you. I wish Jeremy Hunt had read this before he unilaterally decimated hundreds of junior doctors’ lives with his ignorant policies!

Support for doctors in negotiating change in work place and demands on them emotionally in their work needs to be put in place to protect patients and doctors alike. The ultra competitive and exam based system continues to promote an attitude of certainty in situations where uncertainty of outcome is the reality and understanding denigrates previous certainties. This book reflects some if the realities which are experienced by many doctors and are unacknowledged by the culture of western medicine as practiced in tge USA and UK. Fascinating and thorough, gives pause for thought.
