Summary

Audie Award Winner, Erotica, 2015

The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of 10 thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.", and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing...except a single word, on the notes line: "You". Just those three letters.

If you received a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

Don't waste the credit

Ho hum. The characters are boring, the story is hackneyed... Rather get Sylvia Day or Jodi Ellen Malpas

What a mistaka ta Maka ! (Allo Allo fan)

What disappointed you about Alpha?

It looked as if it could be a quite nice, summer, easy listening fun plot,, where we got to find out why the money envelopes came .......we did but
The sample gave no indication at all that it would be just hours and hours of explicit sexual exploits? or whatever.
l even fell asleep at one point and missed the explanation ! No prude, but l honestly felt that it was boring, and would never have bought it had l had the slightest notion of the full content.
Never have l been so disappointed with a book,

Has Alpha put you off other books in this genre?

You bet it has

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne ?

What can you say constructively about two readers who just spend the book reading out what they are doing to each other in vivid detail? Not a lot of dramatic art really needed here;

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Boredom and utter disappointment. Used the zapping button after the first two hours a lot, as l thought it might actually change !

Any additional comments?

Only that in this case the sample listening, really didn't reflect the style of the book , so that is nobody's fault. Had it done so l seriously wouldn't have bought it.

A letter from the husband

Dear Jasinda Wilder,
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you
My wife has been going through a bit of an ordeal and I can't even begin to tell you how happy it made me to see her get lost in this story. I also can't tell you how happy it made me, that you wrote such a hot story. She not only got lost but was able to get lost in me! The best gift ever and for that I thank you. I praise you for how good you made the dirty. It made this week amazing.
sincerely, a very happy husband

Whew....that was....WOW!

Rarely am I speechless when giving a review...but there is SOOO much to say and all of it sounds kind of hokey....kind of like when you are enthralled in a soap opera and you try to explain it to a friend and it just comes out sounding so dumb, but in the mean time you are the one running to your DVR after work praying something else got resolved today!

That sums up Alpha...it wasn't contrived drama...it wasn't over the top ridiculous drama that you could NEVER see happening....it wasn't really an inst-love drama....and it wasn't a virgin meets billionaire love story. What it was was HOT...if there were words larger than capital size I would use them. This story is explicit, sensual, rough, raw, mind blowing and all without being raunchy. I have never listened to this author before but I think all my credits are about to be used!

Imagine you are a broke 26 year old, you are trying desperately to make ends meet, but they don't. You are working full time, you had to put your mother in a home due to her mental issues, and your little brother is in college and he NEEDS your help...then there are the aging grandparents in Florida barely getting by that you feel compelled to help, and there is you. You don't think about you much in this hell-hole you call life because you have to take care of others. That is the life of our leading lady Kyrie...her whole world changed when at 19 her father was murdered and she went from college sorority chick to sole provider and caregiver of her family. She has made her way through life the best way she can and life has kicked her at every chance. Jobs are scarce, and she just lost hers, but she is tough...she has to be. In one day she lost her job, got an eviction notice, her electricity was shut off and she was hungry....and then a check arrived for 10 thousand dollars. She had no choice but to cash it, and then another one came, and then another...and after 12 months of checks and 12 months of being able to finally make ends meet a large man, hat in hand is sent to "collect her" for his employer....the check writer. See these checks come with a string...a string she was terrified to lead to their source, and their source has a story of his own....see he's been watching Kyrie for years...he is obsessed with her...wants her...and now he owns her and she knows it.

*shudder* All I can say without giving the rest of it away is dang that was G-O-O-D, and the best part....it was ONE book, not three....not a cliffhanger....we get the end of the story. Now personally I would be okay with a book 2, but as for book 1 it left me panting for more and the need to re-listen right away. The narrator is up there with Jill Redcliff, her telling of the story was full of passion, full of emotion, and her male voice was....*shudder*...oh my! Gideon Cross is still number 1 but the race was close and I will look for books done by both her and this author again. Wow, just wow. Nice find!!!

Amazing

What made the experience of listening to Alpha the most enjoyable?

Easy listen, fantastic narrator, she captured both genders impeccable

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alpha?

Not just one memorable moment, it was the build-up of the story, although not very "real life" realistic, if you are looking for a heart thumping ride get ready, it's a roller-coaster!!

Have you listened to any of Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first, but not the last, I am so ready for the next book

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The primal Alpha named Roth aka Valentine, oh did I say PRIMAL ANIMAL!

Any additional comments?

Don't hesitate, if you need to be swept away and lost in a "oh god oh god moment" for 11 hours and 49 minutes, DO IT. Its well worth your credit spent.

Tedious in the extreme.

Never got to the sexy bits. Two hours in, and I was still mired in the tedious tale of a hardworking girl being plucked from her life into the lap of luxury. Tedious, unimaginative build up. Can't imagine the rest will get any better....I quit.

Awful All Around But For Above Average Narration

-

I was anxiously awaiting this release. The mystery, the drama, the intrigue and the summary made the book sound very, very hot.

However, NOWHERE in the description was there any mention that this book was fantasy. After listening for about 15 minutes, I realized that this was not the book for me. There was nothing deep or with resemblance to a plot.

The narration was slow but my preference is quick and after adjusting the speed to 1.5 times I was happy. The performers gave a better than average performance.

If your preference is repetitive, graphic sex in a book then you may enjoy this. For this listener, it was a bit too much. If the author/editor cut a lot of the repetition and focus on the plot and character development and I might be inclined to listen to another. However, this is a big NO, in my opinion.

Not credit worthy or worth the $– even on sale.

Warning: strong language, violence and graphic sex

Wish I'd read the reviews first

For some reason, I expected some sort of mystery or action adventure story when I ordered this book. What I got was a poor man's Fifty Shades of Grey. But it was on sale, so I just grabbed it quick. I have now returned it quick.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes i would. If i like this book then my friends would agree too

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alpha?

Where they have sex in the walk-in closet in front of the mirror. That was mind blowing. I love that thing so much. It was a turn on. & a page turner.

Which character – as performed by Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne – was your favorite?

When I finally got to hear Tyler Donne for the first time at the ending of the book. Mind blowing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Made me laugh not cry and i enjoyed this book.

Any additional comments?

Just take a chance like I did. You will not be disappointed.

Worst~

What disappointed you about Alpha?

Made women look weak & stupid

What could Jasinda Wilder have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

give the main character a brain

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Rage it had me screaming at the character! Valentine become the man he tried warning her about, so totally ridiculous and then the last part states "im going to take you far away and tie you up so no one can here you, I own you".

Content

If you could sum up Alpha in three words, what would they be?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the plot was light, but it was there. Wilder's sex scenes sizzle. Roth was delicious!! I am crossing my fingers for a second installment that would include Harris!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alpha?

Most memorable part was a sex scene toward the end, when Roth gives over control.

What does Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Narrator's were great! Summer was awesome with her interpretation of the sex scenes and the noises. Highly enjoyable and erotic.

Such a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book was way over the top. The female lead throws all her values out the door just because of a hot billionaire and in just 1-2 days!!, please give me a break. For someone meant to be level-headed and focused not highly likely. Speaking of hot billionaire, what a joke! This book was more about sex that anything else. It just did not work. So I guess if something erotic is what you are looking for then this might work for you.

What could Jasinda Wilder have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Focus more on building realistic and likable characters.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne ?

I am on the border with Summer. She isn't the worst narrator out there but I wouldn't jump at listening to her any time soon. Unfortunately, I did not make it to the end of this book, can't comment on Tyler's narration.

What character would you cut from Alpha?

All characters! Harris was more vicious than macho, I mean he killed people just because his employer told him so. Valentine was so weird, I just don't see how any female would not think "serial killer" esp after learning he has been watching and stalking you for years! Kyrie, well I am all for going after love but she seemed very superficial and weak. Giving in so easily especially after the author builds her up to be this down-on-her-luck level headed female made me picture her as weak and full of herself!

Any additional comments?

I would not waste a credit on this.
