Summary
The Sunday Times best-selling author of Closer than You Think returns with a breathtaking new novel in the Cincinnati series - would you cross the line between danger and desire, between justice and revenge? A desperate hunt to find a young girl's killer is about to turn deadly....
Former army ranger Marcus O'Bannion and homicide cop Scarlett Bishop have met only briefly, but when Scarlett receives a phone call in the middle of the night, she immediately recognises the smooth voice asking her to meet him in one of Cincinnati's roughest areas.
On arriving, Scarlett finds the body of a teenage Asian girl and Marcus injured. Marcus claims the young woman was working for an affluent local family, and the last time he saw her she was terrified and clearly in need of help.
Having agreed to meet her, they were both targeted for death. As they investigate, Scarlett and Marcus are pulled into the dangerous world of human trafficking, where they soon realise they are going to have to become as ruthless as those they are hunting. Because if they don't, how many other girls may end up alone in the dark?

Had to give up - too sickly sweet!
I loved the first book in this series and whilst this one had great subject matter I had to give up on it. The saccharine sweet perfection of the main protagonists were too much to stomach! Constant tales of saintly good deeds, lumps in the throat and hair sniffing just made me want to barf. It totally destroyed any interest I had in them as they were TOO perfect to be believable. I fear this one has crossed the line into Mills and Boon and it's put me off completely. I absolutely acknowledge this is likely to be my own cynicism rather than any fault with the Story or characters but there it is. Shame because the subject is heavyweight and interesting.

Traffiking
Is that the right spelling? Anyway, usual K Rose fodder. Police are investigating a young girl's murder and this leads to joint action with the FBI and Deacon from the previous book, helping out. As usual, the lead couple fall in love after two seconds which gets a bit samey.

Don't hesitate....
Took me a chapter or two to get into, but then it was compulsive listening.
Characters you can buy into and a story line just involved enough to keep you guessing.
A book that leaves you feeling bereft when it ends is worth 5 stars.
Off to find the next.

good storyline, too much cursing and sex scenes
What did you like most about Alone in the Dark?
The author worked the storyline really well. Background information about human-trafficking, how many citizens even don't realize it also happens in the States.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Alone in the Dark?
The reconciliation between Scarlet and her father was one of the most memorable moments for me of this book.
What does Susie James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Not sure, she is a good narrator, but can't mention something specifically.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I kept listening to it till the end, pretty much in one sitting.
Any additional comments?
I found the cursing and the detailed sex scenes annoying and innecessary. I would definitely enjoy her books more without it.

This is a fabulous story
What did you like most about Alone in the Dark?
I loved the intricate plot with its twists and turns
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the tight suspense and the well-rounded characters. She draws such defined word pictures that I can clearly imagine all of the main characters.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
This was a really hard choice but I think that the scene in the hospital waiting room when everyone is awaiting news of Stone I think
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Things are never as they seem, people are never who you think
Any additional comments?
This second book in the Cincinnati series is well up to the usual high standard set by the other series she has done. The many interesting characters in this book lead me to hope that there are more books in this series to come.

Another great read
Another great book in the series. It's long but it keeps you gripped all the way though. The characters build through the books so you do really need to read them in order to get the most out of them. If you like books by Nora Roberts you'll like Karen Rose.

Good listen but a little too long
This is the first audio book I have listened to by Karen rose. Think I would prefer to read her books. Found it too long with too much detail about what was going on with the characters who all sighed and rolled their eyes far too many times.
The story line was interesting although a hard topic to listen about.

Along in the dark
As always Karen Rose has done it again. They are long books but it is very difficult to turn off and once it's off you can't wait to get back to the story
It's wonderfully written and the reader is very cleaver with the voices, you know who's talking all the time.
If you haven't listened to Karen Rose then please try one of her books, each and every one is full of suspense and drama.
