Robert B. Routt
He died in his bedroom.
No pulse. No heartbeat. No chance.
And then… a rookie paramedic refused to give up.
When Robert Routt collapsed alone in his home, his life quietly slipped away. His mother couldn’t reach him. His daughter found him unresponsive. Paramedics arrived—and found no pulse. After six shocks, one rookie brought him back from the edge of death.
What followed was a coma, a stroke, paralysis, and a long fight to reclaim his life one painful step at a time.
Almost Gone is a raw, honest, and deeply human memoir about the opioid crisis, medical system failures, and the unbreakable power of family, faith, and second chances. From the silent collapse to the surreal world inside a coma, to learning to walk again, Robert shares the truth as he lived it—unfiltered, unforgettable, and proof that miracles still happen.
If you’ve ever faced pain, addiction, trauma, or the feeling of being truly lost, this story will stay with you long after the final word.
