Summary

John Grady Cole is the last bewildered survivor of long generations of Texas ranchers. Finding himself cut off from the only life he has ever wanted, he sets out for Mexico with his friend, Lacey Rawlins.

Befriending a third boy on the way, they find a country beyond their imagining: barren and beautiful, rugged yet cruelly civilised.... A place where dreams are paid for in blood.

A very good story with great content.<br />

I'll remember this one for a long time for the story and how it's told.

This ain't my Country...

That is a phrase that kept me thinking from start to finish. And I'm still thinking about now.

Wonderful

Wasn’t sure it was going to be for me in the opening minutes but it soon becomes a truly absorbing story brilliantly narrated.

Oustanding

An under-rated classic, something like Hemingway - possibly more haunting and poetic. A book to come back to again.

Exactly what a book should be!

I’ve tried hard to think of anything about this that I didn’t like… it’s honestly the best Audible experience I’ve had. Excellent story, excellent narration. Going to be hard to find anything to top this.

Beautifully written, and wonderfully narrated.

My only minor gripe is the questionable Mexican Spanish accent of the narrator. Otherwise five stars.

Excellent writing . Sublimely narrated.

Wow. My experience with Cormac began with reading No Country for Old Men after watching the Coen Brothers adaptation of the book. Then Blood Meridian. Then reading them both again a couple of times over the years . I will certainly revisit this classic again. How such a picture of life can be beautifully rendered with a blend of sparse prose and intricate detail. Painting so neatly all of its futile sadness alongside the comfort found in the intricate folds of it. This is the power McCarthy wields. In my eyes the greatest living American Author of our times. Written by a Brit.

A sad life of a cowboy

Guess the life was hard in the early dayss and this story certainly gives you this impression amd luck certainly passed him by. Interesting story and well worth a listen, it might help if you know a little Spanish but it doesnt deter from the story.

Beautifully written book

Captivating and poetic. Heart wrenching, believable. In my humble opinion Cormac McCarthy is a master writer.

Wonderfully evocative and lyrical book and reading

Absolutely adored it. Timeless and beautifully written. Took me back to the 19th century in Texas and Mexico was really sorry when it ended.
