To win her heart, she'll have to fight…

Winner of the RNA's Popular Romantic Novel Award 2025.

Oxfordshire 1362

When Lily Barden discovers her best friend Johanna’s hand in marriage is being awarded as the main prize at a tournament, she is determined to stop it. Disguised as a knight, she infiltrates the contest, preparing to fight for Jo’s hand. But her conduct ruffles feathers, and when a dangerous incident escalates out of Lily’s control, Jo must help her escape.

Finding safety with a local brewster, Lily and Jo soon settle into their new freedom, and amongst blackberry bushes and lakeside walks an unexpected relationship blossoms. But when Jo’s past catches up with her and Lily’s reckless behaviour threatens their newfound happiness, both women realise that choices must always come at a cost. The question they need to ask is if the cost is worth the price of love…

It has been over a since I read the first book in this series and I couldn’t wait to get stuck into the sequel; and I was loving every single second of it. From how Jo and Lilly’s relationship blossomed throughout the book, and how it focused on the themes of trust, overcoming grief and femininity. This was a truly divine sequel and I can’t wait for the next one to make its presence known.

This is a touching beautiful romance that blossoms through the hardships of a woman's lot! How men rule and women kneel down to the men's whims and desires. But nothing can stop true love even if one has to pretend to be a knight and save the day. This is a captivating storyline and narration was exceptional quality, a joy to listen to.🎶

KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR. 🗡🛡

This was an enjoyable book. I enjoy lesbian romances that take me to another era and this ticked that box. I would have liked the story being a little more immersive to the surroundings, to really give me that feeling for the historic time, but it had enough of that to keep me happy.
The plot was an easy listen, and even though this is part 2 in the series, I didn't listen to part 1 and don't feel I needed to. Read the title description of book 1 if you want to get a brief understanding, but it's not necessary.
Having 2 narrators didn't work for me. If the sections were only the side of 1 character it might be OK, but both narrators were doing all the characters voices, and it threw me a bit because their voices were so different. It didn't spoil the book though, so don't let that put you off.

Overall, a good listen. I'd follow this series again if another lesbian romance was in it.

A great listen

Knights, women defying societal expectations, and lesbians - I'm not sure what more you could ask for in a book! The writing is warm and sensual, and the narration is lively and easy to listen to. The supporting characters really elevate the central romance, and I really enjoyed how everything tied together at the end.

Enjoyable sapphic romance
