Summary

Travis and his sister, Corey, can’t resist a good trick. When they learn that their grandmother’s quiet Vermont inn, where they’re spending the summer, has a history of ghost sightings, they decide to do a little “haunting” of their own. Before long, their supernatural pranks have tourists flocking to the inn, and business booms. But Travis and Corey soon find out that they aren’t the only ghosts at Fox Hill Inn. Their thoughtless games have awakened something dangerous, something that should have stayed asleep. Restless, spiteful spirits swarm the inn, while a dark and terrifying presence stalks the halls and the old oak grove on the inn’s grounds. Only Travis and Corey can lay to rest the ghosts they’ve stirred. This means discovering the secret of Fox Hill and the horrors visited on its inhabitants years before....

Once again, Mary Downing Hahn has created a chilling and gripping ghost story in the tradition of The Old Willis Place, Witch Catcher, and Deep and Dark and Dangerous.

Underwhelming

I hate giving poor reviews, but I felt no attachment to the two main characters and some of the characterizations were a little lazy (the hippy mediums for example). Mostly though the narrator was poor. At times he sounded like Cartman from South Park when he did Cory's voice, which was funny, but I don't think that was the intention.

Good Suspense

Would you consider the audio edition of All the Lovely Bad Ones to be better than the print version?

It depends on whether or not I'm knitting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

the narrator

What does Jeffrey Cummings bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The ability to knit or cook while still hearing a great story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. Especially not right before bed.

Any additional comments?

Worth the time.

Love

how to be thankful for what I have. it taught me to love my family, friends, and being alive because not everybody has that chance to experience what we have.

good story

I saw this book in a Library and thought it looked good and found it on Audible. The story was good just like I thought. It's a good older childs story. It has suspense , a good story line. I didnt find it too childish, or boring. It kept my interest. I would recomend this book for pre teens and teens who aren't too old for a good story!

A cute, sweet story

Would you listen to All the Lovely Bad Ones again? Why?

I wouldn't reread it by myself, I'm not a rereader typically, but I might read it with kids. The protagonists are children, and the book itself seems geared, with its milder scares and its themes, to be geared towards a younger audience. Teens and tweens love scary books, so knowing authors that write in this genre that aren't going to melt a kid's ears off are good to find.

What other book might you compare All the Lovely Bad Ones to and why?

A House With a Clock in its Walls is aimed at a similar audience, but while Bellairs' Louis is wracked with guilt over his slip up, Hahn's siblings don't seem to feel much remorse. They're a fun pair.

What does Jeffrey Cummings bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He livens up the funny parts, helping you see what's funny about the bad kids' bad behavior, as well as the scary in the scary parts, and when the scary is funny, or the funny is scary, that takes a deft reader. It doesn't always come off perfectly, but Hahn is asking Mr. Cummings to keep an awful lot of plates spinning at once.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nope, it was a book to listen to while out walking. I am sure people were wondering what I was laughing at while I was walking along. : )

Good story, poor narration.

Would you try another book from Mary Downing Hahn and/or Jeffrey Cummings?

I would try another book from Mary Downing Hahn, but not one narrated by Jeffrey Cummings. His narration interfered with the story for me. Each time he voiced a female character, he sounded nasal and silly.

Was All the Lovely Bad Ones worth the listening time?

The book was worth it, if you can separate the story from the narration.
