Summary

When a family camping trip takes a dark turn, how far will one mother go to keep her family safe?

Struggling with working-mother guilt, Marlene Greene hopes a camping trip in the forest will provide quality time with her three young children - until they see fires in the distance, columns of smoke distorting the sweeping view. Overnight, all communication with the outside world is lost.

Knowing something terrible has happened, Marlene suspects that the isolation of the remote campsite is all that's protecting her family. But the arrival of a lost boy reveals they are not alone in the woods, and as the unfolding disaster ravages the land, more youngsters seek refuge under her wing. The lives of her own children aren't the only ones at stake.

When their sanctuary is threatened, Marlene faces the mother of all dilemmas: Should she save her own kids or try to save them all?

Wow! What a listen!!

Loved it! when reading the description it was different to what I normally listen to, but as I have been struggling recently to find anything that keeps me interested I downloaded it anyway! I was not disappointed! kept me gripped the whole way through! every chapter was relevant to the story and there was no drawn out unnecessary stories or chapters. No chance of getting bored whilst listening to this, brilliant!

Anti climactic

I agree with one previous review. If I had known it was a series, I wouldn't havre wasted my time. This book was anti-climactic and left you hanging off of a small retaining wall. (Easy to jump down without a thought, other than "what a waste of my time". I was shocked when it rather abruptly ended and went back on Amazon to see where I missed that this was a series, still couldn't obviously find where they revealed this information. I will not be running to grab the second book, if it ever comes out because I will easily forget the first.

I enjoyed this book. However, it seems most books now have no ending they all
set up for a sequel!!!

left hanging

Not my type of book, but kept me listening! The ending keeps you hanging though and I really dislike that

Love this book for strange reasons!

The main character angers me but I am still fascinated by her! Her choices bother me to no end as it could have been better! However in panic mode as she is I have to forgive her as she isn’t thinking clearly. I keep searching for the happy endings to her choices. This book is not predictable by any means. Give it a shot and see for yourself!

Intense story.

I was taken by surprise by the story line which held my interest to the end. However, I have mixed emotions about the conclusion and feel like I have been left up in air without a sure place to land.

Not what I expected

I obviously didn't read the description of this book and was confused where it was going initially. It wasn't long and I was caught up in it though. I wanted it to end so I would know what happened and I didn't want it to end because I was afraid of what happened. It kept me on edge I couldn't stop reading and I was satisfied with the ending. And it's true as the book said Mother's really don't have choices but that doesn't matter. I recommend it.

An emotional thrill ride!

Such a relatable story. Not that I have experienced those terrible things, but as a parent it made me think about what I would do.

An incredible story

This book was read flawlessly with such raw emotion that I was able to experience the feelings of each character. I wasn't sure about reading a book set in England, but it didn't matter, only the story and the characters mattered. This is brilliantly written and a must for listening too on audible.
