Summary
Orphan Leo Cotton has finally built a family, but the advent of bipolar depression wakes him from this dream life to reveal dark truths about the man he’d married. One year later, Leo is lost. Embarrassed by a dead-end job that barely pays the bills, he can’t help but notice that those around him are all enjoying success.
When his closest friend, Sara, asks him to be her best man, Leo reaches the last straw: How can he possibly afford these lavish festivities on his wages?
A Grindr chance encounter reveals that a shortcut to riches does exist...but in the end, this reckless route may cost him the loved ones he aims to impress and welcome terrible danger. Leo’s trip will take him afar, but answers lie only within.

Unique and entertaining
This is a surprisingly deep and layered novel. The candid look at bipolar disorder is artfully done and compelling listening. The humour throughout balances nicely with the chaotic ride Leo Cotton takes you on. The eroticism is more smutty than sensual but since this is written from Leo's perspective it seems in character. Every character feels tangible, like these are real people that you know personally. The dialogue flows seamlessly and story moves at a respectable pace.
David Nagel's narration is smooth and crisp with no noticeable stops and starts. Excellent sound quality. I particularly liked his rendition of the German guy (very Arnold "Get to the Choppa!" Schwarzenegger).
All in all this was a very entertaining listen even for a heterosexual cisgender male such as myself.

Well written and performed LGBTQ story
This is a very human story, in which the main character Leo Cotton is a young gay man for whom life has not been kind, a drug addicted father, suffering from being bipolar he finds himself separated from and dumped by his husband and in financial trouble, in a job he doesn't like, unable to keep his beloved dog and with an imminent expensive wedding to attend of his best friend Sara, So he makes a choice and becomes involved in the sex trade and sells himself for money.
It is explicit, positively graphic in places with detailed descriptions of gay sexual acts, which may not be top of everyone's favourite audible listens. The scenes in question are simply very well described parts of the journey that the main character follows throughout this vivid story, it's Channel four...or It's a sin...just a good story with some very naughty bits.
Michael Sarais has a very natural, fluid, realistic style of writing and presents the whole story in first person from Leo's point of view, the "story within the story" or allegory which explains the colour scheme of the audiobook cover elevates the material in a way that reminds me of The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde. I thought it was very well written and had no problem listening to it and looked forward to each listening session, I got through it relatively quickly. Hey it has to be a very good audible if I actually get through it all!
David Nagel as narrator is a very good choice to give voice to Leo and his dry, cynical characterisation of the world weary and troubled Leo is entirely believable and the variety of characters Leo meets on the way, be they close friends or "professional" encounters are all well differentiated. The sound quality is good.
I recommend this audiobook, However when the audible voice says this audiobook contains mature content it means it! Well done to author and Narrator 5 stars.
