Summary

On October 12, 1972, a plane carrying a team of young rugby players crashed into the remote, snow-peaked Andes. Out of the 45 original passengers and crew, only 16 made it off the mountain alive. For 10 excruciating weeks, they suffered deprivations beyond imagining, confronting nature head-on at its most furious and inhospitable. And to survive, these men and women not only had to keep their faith; they had to make an impossible decision: Should they eat the flesh of their dead friends?

A remarkable story of endurance and determination, Alive is the dramatic best-selling account of one of the most harrowing quests for survival in modern times.

Great story!

i have always found this story story fascinating. This survival story gives a good account of what happened to those survivors of the Andes plane crash and i found the narrators voice very easy to listen to. Well worth the money and time in my opinion.

very bleak, but astonishing

the story here is incredibly powerful. I'm not religious, but it's clear how much faith enabled the survivors from the crash to endure their awful ordeal.

Brilliant

Amazing story. Very well written. Narrator is overall very good, although could have been better at pronunciation of Spanish names and place-names.

Mental story..

The story here is absolutely crazy.. would recommend for that alone.
A tragic accident in the first place but then pile on top of that everything else they had to endure.

Very good, but a bit too casual?

I really enjoyed this book. After watching the recent movie adaption, Society of the Snow, I really wanted to learn more about this tragedy. While very very factual, and narrated very well, my only complaint was the blasé way in which events were described. A quite dry historical fact based point-by-point summary of the boys struggles.

It would have felt better with more testimony of the survivors of how they felt during certain events. I appreciated that the events were not exaggerated or hammed up for drama, but at the same time the boys came off rather sociopathic due to the lack of emotion conveyed by the author in the report style writing.

Overall I highly reccomend though, for anyone morbidly curious to know more about this story, I can highly recommend.

What a phenomenal story of endurance and survival

Amazing survival story and interesting perspective of the survivors and the families. A must read for anyone who enjoys human triumph over the elements or disaster.

One of the best books I've ever read

Incredible story, I couldn't stop listening. The narrator was actually very good on the whole, but, as others have pointed out, his pronunciation of Spanish names and places was awful. Still, it doesn't really detract from the experience and he makes up for it with otherwise good narration.
