Summary

Who better to interpret the version of the Bible read in Shakespeare’s day than four Shakespearean actors? The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John sparkle with new light. Timely and important, the four acclaimed narrators boldly showcase the historic text, making the powerful King James Version of the Gospels truly accessible to the modern ear. Read by award-winning narrator Alison Larkin, James Warwick (star of the Partners in Crime TV series on Masterpiece Theater), plus the critically acclaimed Shakespearean duo Tina Packer and Nigel Gore, called “Marvelous!” by The New York Times.

Extraordinary readings of the Gospels!

I just finished listening to this extraordinary recording of the Gospels and I loved every minute. The words were brought to life in a way that it was as if I was hearing the familiar passages for the first time. Each reader brings something different to each Gospel. Alison Larkin's voice is clear as a bell and suddenly Matthew is accessible - even that beginning passage with all the names sounds beautiful! James Warwick's reading of Mark is at times intense and at times simple - the combination is riveting. And as for the well known Shakespearean actors Tina Packer and Nigel Gore - well their reading of Luke and John is as dramatic and exciting as you would expect it to be. It was a very interesting choice to pair four actors of this quality with the Gospels and the result is quite wonderful. This was a real treat to listen to and I shall listen to it again and again. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
