Summary
As a child Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man.
When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating - and waiting for suitable prey. Hoop and his associates uncover a nest of Xenomorphs, and hell takes on a new meaning. Quickly they discover that their only hope lies with the unlikeliest of saviors....
Ellen Ripley, the last human survivor of the salvage ship Nostromo.

Bad Narration
I've listened to the prequel to Covenant, Covenant and the original film novel back to back over the last week. The others I've finished in a couple of days each with hours of solid listening, all thoroughly enjoyable even though I'm very familiar with the films they're based on they were still engaging. Not so this abomination. I've had to take a break from it often, sometimes mid chapter. All criticism of the narration is entirely justified. The only aspects punctuating a largely monotone delivery are awful female voices, Ripley (recognised as not just a feminist icon but a brilliant action film protagonist regardless of gender) is reduced to a breathy, girly voice, as are other characters (even a certain male one) and, as others have stated, the horrible upward inflection. This serves only to irritate and distract from the writing itself. Speaking of the writing, much of the story is a repetition of either "he said" or "she said". A randomly selected two minute sample will largely sound as follows: Monotone blaaaahh blaaahh blaaah *sudden upward inflection* blah. "Blah blah" he said, *breathy girly voice* "blah blah blah" she said, "blah blah" he said,"blah blah" she said, "blah" he said, "blah blah" she said. and so forth. The audio drama adaptation helmed by Dirk Maggs, however, is excellent. Get that instead and don't bother with this. I've since removed any other books narrated by Jeff Harding from my wishlist, including the other two in this series.

cheesy
i gave up after 3hrs.
the story seems fine and there's a bit of character psychology. but...
this book reads more like a graphic novel rather than real fiction. i would probably liked it as a teenager. but it's weak writing for an adult audience.

Predictable
I found the book predictable with no real plot twist or anything new to bring to the alien universe. I did finish the book however this was just to make sure I had guessed correctly regarding the plot.

Predictable Ending
A good listen, very well narrated. But having Ripley in the story, made me think how it would fit with what I knew already, really spoiled the last chapter or two for me...

interesting take on the cannon
enjoyable but tries to shoe in too much reference to cannon, I've never heard the word "hoop" so many times in my life, worth a listen though 🤔
