Summary
When a scientist is murdered after finding signs of alien magic in an archeological dig, Mage Damien Montgomery, Hand of the Mage-King of Mars, is sent to investigate both the murder and the alien runes.
His investigation is interrupted when a mysterious ship attacks the ruins with weapons only available to the Martian Navy. Despite saving the dig site, Montgomery is left with more questions than answers.
His investigations reveal questions about the origin of his magic and his nation - and lead him back to the one place that should be safe: the court of the Mage-King of Mars.

another good story.
another conspiracy plot that gets found out and the poor main protagonist who gets involved in this. amazingly it needs to be continued so I have to wait for the next book to find out what happens next.

brilliant!!
loved them all so far...can't wait for the next installment...very cleverly conceived plot....it's not just all power magic...he uses his brain as well to solve problems.

Imaginative story well performed
For me this was the best of this book series so far. The story line has developed and I am looking forward to discovering the secrets that so many have died for in the author’s universe.

All in all good fun
Another good story. Pace moves nicely. A little predictable at times but hey that’s ok. Damien has gotten a bit stuffy over the course of the books. A bit of a stick up his behind, but still an enjoyable character. I really like the narrator. Although terrible attempt at an English accent, so I was relieved he didn’t even attempt an Irish one. Would recommend to pass the time.

Excellent & excellent!
Well written and descriptive (but not too descriptive) with good characters and intriguing plot. I've listened to all of the books in the series sequentially and highly recommend all of them and can’t wait for the next instalment. I enjoyed them so much I've taken the time to go back and add this positive review to as many as I can! Definitely an excellent listen.
