Summary

A good informative book

Just enough details to be interesting I enjoyed reading insights into other founding fathers that were Hamilton's contemporaries. If you love history as I do, you will enjoy this book.

A simple fact filled book

This book is just what I needed, not too long but enough facts that make you want more. Now to see the play. Superficial easy read but it's a good introduction to Hamilton's history.

A good Survey of His Life

A short compact look at Mr. Hamilton. Will drive you to learn more about this very complicated, very intelligent, little known founding father of America's banking system.

Insightful book

I particularly appreciated the use of quotations from original documents that supported the author's narrative. This book also provided an intimate look into the culture of the period and the competitive alliances and interactions of our founding fathers.

My Favorite Founder

A solid biography with accessible language for non academia , I only put it behind Washington and Grant because those texts illuminated these gentlemen more for me, whereas Hamilton supported and expanded in some facts I knew already.

Thoroughly enjoyable

Many of the issues our Founders grappled with are very much alive today. Hamilton himself was a uniquely talented figuresmart and insightful and eloquent, and a warm person as well. As an illegitimate orphan from the Caribbean, he had much to overcome during his sadly abbreviated life, and history has not given him his full due, either. This engagingly written biography sets the record straight.

useful

More so than the other founding fathers, Hamilton emerged as the greatest mind of the early years. I thought I knew my history of the U.S. rather well until I read this book. There is certainly more to tell, and Hamilton's story should be heard. It's a long read, but I remained fascinated enough to stay with it. It's well worth the time!

Simply wonderful

This comprehensive biography fills in many holes that existed in my understanding of the early days of our country. It also caused me to see Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Madison in a different light, and to appreciate the strong role that the woman in HAmilton's life played, particularly Eliza, Angelica, and Maria Reynolds.

Deep overview

I learned so much from reading this biography. I found out I admire the heck out of Hamilton and disliked Jefferson. I thought I knew something about early American history, but I had no idea how contentious we Americans have been since our very founding. It is easy to understand now that we have always been a deeply divided country

Alexander Hamilton

Fortunately, this book, together with the smash-hit play, "Hamilton," which it inspired, have made Alexander Hamilton--the only Framer who was a committed abolitionist and who never owned slaves--truly a hero for our times.

well done

This book is a beautifully rendered portrait of Hamilton, both his public life and his private life. As so many other reviewers have noted, the book is an example of first-rate biographical research and most of the book is well-written.
