Summary

Craig Beck was a successful and functioning professional man in spite of a "two bottles of wine a night" drinking habit. For 20 years, he struggled with a problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he did not think he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

All these "willpower" based attempts to stop drinking failed. Slowly, he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction and one by one, all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn't want to drink anymore.

In this audiobook, he will lead you through the same amazing process. You can stop drinking today.... No need to declare yourself an alcoholic. No group meetings or expensive rehab. No humiliation, no pain, and no "willpower" required.

Alcohol Lied to Me has already helped thousands of people to escape from alcohol addiction. Newly updated, this third edition of the audiobook includes two new chapters.

Motivational

Really inspirational! Craig Beck is fantastic. It makes you realise how from the word go we are encouraged to drink alcohol and poison our bodies. About halfway through listening to Craig, it dawned on me that I've had my last drink. Very powerful.

Amazing and spot on...

An amazingly honest narrative and must read for anyone serious about quitting drinking. Or as Mr Beck says ‘consuming toxins’.

I truly enjoyed the audio version as quite entertaining - sarcasm, tone, directness etc. Listening to someone run through the laundry list of excuses we (heavy drinkers) use on why we continue to drink, while having the same thoughts as a reader, really drives home the premise of the book.

What are we doing to ourselves, our health, our loved ones. Thank you Craig and my mate Michael for recommending.

More convincing than competitive books about this.

I just finished listening to Alcohol Lied to Me and Escaping the Evil Clown audiobooks. They are the best books I've heard yet on dealing with alcohol. I gave up alcohol this spring for 3 months after listening to The Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr because I wanted to lose 25 pounds before I went on a 7 week backpack hike (and I did lose the 25 pounds, alcohol weakens my appetite will power and I put on weight if I drink). I did my 7 week backpack this summer but did drink once every 8 days when we had a zero mileage day and resumed drinking after finishing the hike but in the 2 months since then I've gained 7 pounds and wanted to give up drinking again to keep the weight off and I'm on day 11 of abstinence now. Beck's audiobooks are much more convincing than Carr's book and this time I plan to make it permanent. I know I can go without alcohol as I do it for 7 weeks every summer on my annual backpack hikes. I do really appreciate the author explaining everything the way he does though. I did not realize about the 24 hour withdrawal urge (it explains it perfectly, 24 hours after giving up wine is when I want it again the most). Also I'm glad to know that after 2 weeks, one doesn't really have that withdrawal urge anymore. I'm also glad to have the mental image of how horrible alcohol is by itself. The author is right, I'd never drink it straight. And the realization that alcohol kills cells (that's why it's used to sterilize things) is a powerful image. I do want to 100% eliminate alcohol from my life the rest of my life though as I know it's the best way to live a healthy life and save money too. Not only will one save money on alcohol not bought but also on about 30% less food bought as one without alcohol does not eat as much. PS, I'm 68.

NO BS NO PREACHING!

I’m not totally sure why this is except that our fragile egos get in the way, but no one who has a problem with alcohol wants to hear one thing from someone who says they do. We get angry, we distance ourselves from that person, all the while knowing in the back of our minds that they speak the truth. I bought this book expecting the usual. I wasn’t looking for a preachy book that was going to tell me to go to AA. I don’t even go to PTA meetings for God’s sake because I can’t stand that mentality. Let’s just say that this book is straightforward and it goes a lot deeper into the world of heavy drinking then you would imagine. We blame ourselves for our drinking, all the while not understanding that it is indeed malfunctioning brain chemistry that causes us to do so. So not only does this book delve into the reasons WHY we drink, it gives us a clear and concise path to choose ourselves whether we do or do not want to drink. Good simple explanations, no guilt trips, the decision is yours and only yours. I listened to this book on Audible and have been completely drink free for 30 days. I can drink anytime I want to. The differences now I CHOOSE not to.

big help

Craig's approach is working for me. Today is day 35 without alcohol. I feel awesome, and I dont have any urge to go back. I saw a lot of parallels in myself to Craig's struggles and lies he told himself to justify his problem with alcohol. I've listened to the book a few times to drive the points home.

Thoughts -

Craig Beck does a good job of verbalizing the lies we tell ourselves about alcohol. He drives home facts about the negative health impacts and reasons why we feel so much social pressure to continue drinking.

Id recommend this book to anyone who may be a problem drinker and is serious about quitting. I’m unsure if I believe a person who has a full blown addiction would be able to reason with themselves enough to quit.

Craig totally nails it!!!!

Since the beginning of the book I was cautivated by the truths in it. I listened to Craig's videos on YouTube for a while but the books really bring everything together making it effortlessly easy for me to stop drinking once and for all. Up until this point I wasn't able to go more than 48 hrs without any form of alcohol (beer, wine or spirits) since I started listening to the book all cravings went away and more important any excuses for drinking also. Thanks Craig. I highly recommend this book.

Useful.

Useful info. But I found Allen Carr's method much better. The book would have been better if he elaborated more on topics of ego and sub-sub-conscious mind.
