From the journal of Dr. Benjamin Spotswood LaFleur, Doctor of Mouse Medicine, comes the story of Sister Genevieve Sara Déglise, Sister of Wide Meadow, an unassuming little church mouse who bravely changed the world forever.
Through a lifetime of research, Dr. LaFleur compiled an extraordinary record in his journal. It included the story of Genevieve’s life, her trials, accomplishments and sacrifice. He carefully recorded her role in events of such magnitude that they defy belief. Along with this, he documented the broader life of mice within Milford Road Church, Wide Meadow, and the pasture, known to mice as the Land of Cows, thus preserving a culture and history that might otherwise have been lost through the passage of time. His notes were meticulous; the work of a disciplined scientist and a devoted witness. Yet his manuscript, written in the Milforodic dialect of mice of his time, was believed lost—another casualty of the passing years.
That belief endured until 2010, when, during renovation of Milford Road Church, the manuscript was unexpectedly discovered hidden within a wall. What followed was not merely an act of recovery, but one of restoration. The task of translating the text from Milforodic into our own language proved long and exacting, requiring patience, care, and reverence for the voice preserved within its pages.
