Summary

He was a hairdresser to dye for... The local ladies all deem Mr John a wizard, so when Agatha finds a few grey hairs on her head - and the rinse she tries at home turns her hair purple - she makes a beeline for the handsome Evesham hairdresser. And as well as sorting out her hair it soon becomes clear the charming man also has designs on her heart - but their budding romance is cut short when Mr John is fatally poisoned in his salon. Once again Agatha finds herself embroiled in a murder case. Was it one of Mr John's many lady clients, all of whom divulged to him their darkest secrets? It's time for Agatha to get to the root of this hair-raising mystery!

entertaining and ingenious.

I listen to my books at night before sleeping. This is perfect material. Light, ingenious, funny. Loved it and all of the other stories I have read in this series.

Another good M. C. Beaton.

Agatha Raisin is as always.... good. So is Penelope Keith reading the story. I cannot imagine anyone else doing the dialogue. Agatha reminds me of myself.

Agatha Raisin Rules

Another fantastic Agatha Raisin take read by a talented narrator. No matter what she’s up to, Agatha always finds a murder and it’s always an enjoyable trip for us too.

Agatha does it again.

Another opportunity for the reader to learn more about the character of M.C. Beaton’s detective heroine Agatha Raisin. The police accuse her of blundering about among the suspects in a case and often putting her life at risk. This is generally so. She relies much on her intuition.
Here a skilled, handsome, charming but wicked hairstylist becomes a murder victim. The list of possible suspects appears long as he is proven to be a blackmailer. The murderer is revealed by Agatha with the aid of her friend Sir Charles Fraith as the last person to be suspected. To use a
an horse racing term an ‘outsider’.
My only serious criticism in the Agatha Raisin novels is of smoker M.C.Beaton using Agatha as a means to continually beat the drum of her hobby horse, attempting to justify smoking by bashing characters who rightly speak out against it.
This drives me nuts. Now a senior lady who is plagued by breathing problems, perhaps Beaton feels in would have been a wiser choice to leave the cigarettes alone.
Some occasional semantic errors and Penelope Kieth’s strange mispronounciation of some commonplace words are evident hiccups along the way: but for fans of the Raisin mysteries this book is an enjoyable read.

Never look at hairdressers in the same way again.

Never a dull moment and consistently brilliant in writing and performance. Sir Charles really is becoming quite a character in this book and becomes more than a match for Agatha.

Formulaic but fun

Penny Keith is super in this role and just about musters enough accents to make it work. Story is ok but same old, same old! I have listened to all of these books and I like finding narrative inconsistencies, a bit odd when you consider the author and editors must proof read multiple times.
