Summary

Agatha Raisin returns for her 30th adventure.

When private detective Agatha Raisin comes across a severed leg in a roadside hedge, it looks like she is about to become involved in a particularly gruesome murder. Looks, however, can be deceiving, as Agatha discovers when she is employed to investigate a case of industrial espionage at a factory where nothing is quite what it seems.

The factory mystery soon turns to murder, and a bad-tempered donkey turns Agatha into a national celebrity, before bringing her ridicule and shame. To add to her woes, Agatha finds herself grappling with growing feelings for her friend and occasional lover, Sir Charles Fraith.

Then, as a possible solution to the factory murder unfolds, her own life is thrown into deadly peril. Will Agatha get her man at last? Or will the killer get her first?

Brilliant performance by Penelope Keith!

As usual MC Beaton spins a good yarn, loved the book and the performance by Penelope Keith was her usual excellent standard.

One of M C Beaton's best

I've read all of the Agatha Raisins series but I definitely like this one. Pleased it didn't include Agatha's obsession with her ex husband Lacey...that sometimes doesn't do Agatha justice!

Agatha and Penelope are both delights!

Easy listening, great characters read by a treasured and iconic voice. Caution: May bring on the sudden desire to move to Cotswolds and become really nosey!

Another winner in the series

What’s not to love about Agatha Raisin. If you are already this far into the series then you’ll already be a fan. This book doesn’t disappoint

Beating Around the Bush

I can’t believe this is the 30th Agatha Raisin book! I have read or listened to them all. The narration by Penelope Keith is absolutely superb. Beating Around the Bush is is like getting back together with old friends. I only discovered the series about five years ago, and I quickly made my way through the books. It’s my favourite long running series.

MC Beaton’s stories are original, witty and clever. Her prose is distinctive and I love that. It’s not often you get authors with such a special narrative style. MC Beaton’s warmth and sharp observations are a delight.

Like the other books in the series, this instalment has all the usual fun and games. A leg in a hedge, a moody donkey and a cast of well-drawn suspects make Beating Around the Bush a pleasure. Agatha is - as always - slightly neurotic but in a lovable way.

The mystery was well plotted and entertaining, but for me, it’s the characters that bring these stories alive. Overall, a fantastic addition to this brilliant series.

Eacellent Agatha

I love all Agatha Raisin stories, but have to say this is one of the better ones. It hasn't been rushed through like some of the more recent ones. Jogged along at just the right pace, will become one of my favourites.
