A good listen - BBC radio version

This is a good listen - ideal for the car, however this audiobook does not contain the unabridged books, but rather the BBC radio plays based upon these books starring Penelope Keith. The radio plays are very good, although obviously much shorter than the books, and Penelope Keith makes an excellent Agatha.

Hooked on Agatha

Started listening to the Agatha Raisin series a few weeks ago. I've just finished the fifth book in the series. I love listening to them and can't wait to listen to the next one. I only wish they were a bit longer, considering the price of them.

A silly, fun story, read by the Queen of Voices.

Another fairly ridiculous Agatha Raisin story, but really quite enjoyable and a way to forget your own troubles and those of the world. The stories really aren't well written, but who cares, when Penelope Keith is reading them?

No Wizard of Evesham!

WARNING Don't be fooled into thinking that you are getting two books for the price of one as the Wizard of Evesham is NOT included in this audiobook. For this reason only I have to give the overall mark 3 stars - how can i judge what i wasn't given? It's an odd paring anyway as The Murderous Marriage is book 5 and the Wizard of Evesham is book 8! However, the price for the single book is actually cheaper than a lot of the other Agatha Raisin books, so if you pay for it then you are still getting your money's worth (of course if you bought it with a credit you may well feel that you have been conned).

You can actually tell by the running time of about 6 hours that there cannot possibly be two unabridged books included, and if you look at the book cover you can see that it only mentions The Murderous Marriage.

I see that there is another 'double-up' book on offer (The Curious Curate and Buried Treasure). Again, only the Curious Curate shows on the book cover, and the running time is only 6.5 hours so I doubt that Buried Treasure is also on there but I haven't bought it yet so this is just my surmise.

Anyway, back to the review of The Murderous Marriage, all I can say is that the performance and story both get 5* - Penelope Keith's performance is as good as ever and the book is as entertaining as all the previous ones.

Agatha never disappoints

I love the roller coaster ride of an Agatha Raisin tale. The unlikely course of events that eventually leads to a showdown with the murderer is always entertaining. A good lighthearted murder. 🙂

Good Fun

Enjoyed this very much and have more to listen to. Penelope Keith really brought this book to life. Looking forward to the others as very easy listening. Gave the story a 3 star rating due to some coincidences, but didn't spoil the entertainment.

Waste of £1.99 .

What a waste of money , never come across such a load of rubbish , and , a narrator who could do nothing but screech fit to bust a persons eardrums .

Over too soon!

Another magnificent story from the pen of M. C. Beaton. Beautifully read by Penelope Keith. Funny throughout and somehow relatable.

Hilarious as usual

I did wonder how Agatha's past would be resolved and this was a great fun episode to explain it.

Much fun and amusing writing provides a great piece of gentle escapism.

Great fun hearing Agatha acted out!

This is a dramatization, but being a fan of Agatha Raisin novels, I found it quite entertaining. All of the actors are wonderful and my only complaint that it was over too soon!

Great Radio Play - Unabridged vs Abridged

Would you listen to Agatha Raisin again? Why?

Narration:
Fantastic! So enjoyable. Penelope Keith just IS Agatha Raisin, and all the other characters are so believable. Highly recommended.

Story:The radio play is (obviously) not going to be as involved as the unabridged book, but it is involved enough to be entertaining and not so involved that you have to pay strict and close attention - nice and breezy. As a radio play should be IMHO.

** Abridged VS Unabridged:

There are a lot of complaints about these being the 'Abridged' version of the books that are listed as 'Unabridged'. So, here's the skinny. Radio Plays often refer to themselves as 'Unabridged' even if the Radio Play itself is an abridged version of the book. What you are getting is an 'Unabridged Radio Play' - the whole play, but not necessarily the whole book.

A number of Radio Plays (including some of the Agatha Raisin plays) are incorrectly categorized as an Audiobook, so they are listed as Unabridged Audiobooks when they should either be listed as an Unabridged Radio Play or (minimally) an Abridged Audiobook.

Weird, yah?

** Finding the Radio Play Collections:

Audible does a TERRIBLE job in organizing them so they are very hard to find.

There are currently 5 Radio Play Collections on Audible (as of now):
- Agatha Raisin: The Quiche of Death and the Vicious Vet (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: Potted Gardener and The Walkers of Dembley (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: The Wizard Of Evesham & The Murderous Marriage
- Agatha Raisin: The Terrible Tourist and Fairies of Frylam (Dramatisation)
- Agatha Raisin: The Curious Curate & The Buried Treasure

Some are listed as just Agatha Raisin, without listing the title within the collection. No idea why.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penelope Keith. Amazingly dry and well-delivered. Just as I imagine Agatha Raisin to be.

There is Only book 5

I am very disappointed there is only book 5. I was expecting to hear two books. This is not good I should be able to have the credit to purchase the book that was not included I am extremely disappointed. Audible says this is the fault of the publisher. I hope Audible will correct this misinformation until the publisher fixes this false advertisement

Misleading heading

What disappointed you about Agatha Raisin?

Agatha Raisin, as always, was very enjoyable but at the time I am writing this review, the title of this audible book is The Wizard of Evesham and the Murderous Marriage and that is what the description said was included in this audible book but it's just The Murderous Marriage so it's very misleading. False advertising, really.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I loved the book, I don't love Audible's incorrect description about what was included.

Any additional comments?

Audible needs to update this.

Advertised as unabridged and it is not

This book has "unabridged" as its description and it is a dramatic rendition. While it is ok, it certainly does not qualify as unabridged in the classic sense.

Fun cozy mystery

A fun cozy mystery with an interesting plot, likeable characters and excellent narration. Although all the characters are likeable and reasonably believable, it's difficult to believe some of the interactions between them. Still, a fun and enjoyable story.

Fun

This installment of Agatha's adventures is just as funny and engaging as the earlier works in this series. I worried that the bumpy relationship between James and Agatha would become ironed out, but it remains just as complicated as ever. Penelope Keith is fantastic as always.

A great read

I really enjoyed this book. Reading them in order is important parts of the story evolve over a number of books. It is a very good story and keeps you entertained. Penelope Keith as usual does a wonderful job as narrator.
