Indeed, a rumor's been circulating among the local girls that a vampire has come to their backwater, of all places. Koyomi Araragi, who prefers to avoid having friends because they'd lower his "intensity as a human", is naturally skeptical.

Summary
In the futurefantasy world of RWBY, Rooster Teeth's hit animated webseries, teens train to become warriors. Join the fight in this epic official, original novel from E.C. Myers and RWBY's head writers!
Trouble is brewing....
After Beacon Academy fell, Coco, Fox, Velvet, and Yatsuhashi made a vow: No one else is getting left behind. It's been more than a year since Team CFVY saw their school destroyed by the creatures of Grimm, their friends felled in battle or scattered across the world of Remnant. Since then, they've been settling into life at Shade Academy in Vacuo, fighting hard to finish their training so they can find their friends and save their world.
When a distress message comes into Shade, asking for huntsmen and huntresses to defend refugees from a never-ending stream of Grimm, Team CFVY answers the call without hesitation. But in the heat of the desert, they're forced to relive their former battles, both from the fall of Beacon and from everything that came before.
Don't miss this exclusive original story straight from awardwinning author E.C. Myers and RWBY's head writers, Kerry Shawcross and Miles Luna!

Good for Rwby fans
Team CFVY is very under used in the series itself so I was incredibly excited that they would get a spin off storyline. It ties in nicely and covers a lot of in between scenes from the series.
The writing itself isn’t anything spectacular, but I still enjoyed it. My only complaint is how often the word “said” proceeds dialogue. It started to get cringey with “Velvet said”, “Fox said”, “Yatsu said”, and “Coco said” literally back to back during a discussion segment.

Avoid
Fanfiction quality writing, lackluster narration that barely tried to differentiate the voices. Story flow is a total mess--riddled with flashbacks that contribute nothing to the scene the flashback interrupts. Characters don't grow, their supposed emotions seem inauthentic, and the fights are boring--the last thing you want from RWBY.

All I can say without spoiling the story is that its well written, the narrator is very clear and plays each character she reads correctly and made me can't wait for the next book in the series to listen to. I'm already starting my 3rd time listening to the story

Fun, easy read
The writing is made for a younger audience, so there is plenty of room for more description and detail. The overall story was very fun and gave a lot of neat new insight into team CFVY. Hopefully more books like this will be put out.

Amazing. Felt just like watching the show
Everything about this was perfect the story and tone felt just like an season of rwby, only even better because its PACKED with lore and backstory. Very well written, and well preformed. The narraotor did a really good job capturing the original voices, even matching the tone and influxes of characters from flashbacks.

Fun Insight into CFVY
What really sold this story for me was how it expanded upon CFVY's characters, what they went through on their mission to Lower Cairn and how that affected them in the present. They're struggling to become the best huntsmen and huntresses that they can be, the ideal fostered by their time at Beacon Academy, the home they intend to return to, the home they want to rebuild and see safe again, when they're ready. I also quite liked the theme of taking responsibility for a potentially dangerous power, the need to learn control and self-discipline.

It’s great but one problem
I like it but the story but we don’t get a heads up when they have a flashback, it’s just confusing and gets things mixed up. One second their talking the next they have a flashback which makes you think it’s the same scene until something happens that wasn’t there before.
